19th Sunday of the Year
"After the fire came the sound of a gentle breeze!"/ "The wind dropped!"

Elijah, meeting God not in storm or earthquake, but in the sound of a gentle breeze.
Peter, drowning in the sea, lifted by the hand of Jesus.
Both had been called to risk everything for the their faith in a God who demands a boundless trust.
Then there is the calm, the experience of a power greater than themselves.
We will always receive the strength we need for anything life throws at us if we are following the call,
"Come"
Lord fill us with trust when our courage fails.

18th Sunday of the Year
SOLITUDE FOR COMMUNION

Jesus was seeking solitude and rest, but a greater need arose:
- the need to heal, to feed the hungry of heart with his words,
and ultimately to provide food for their bodies.
18th Sunday of the Year
In our frenetic lives we are sometimes not even aware of our deeper needs,
the deep hunger of our hearts.
Today let us take a little time to go follow Jesus into the solitude,
to become aware of the hungry places within in order that we too may be filled.

"O eternal Truth, true Love, and beloved Eternity,
you are my God, and for you I sigh day and night....
I knew myself to be far away from you in a region of unlikeness,
and I seemed to hear your voice from on high:
'I am the food of the mature: grow, then, and you shall eat me.
You will not change me into yourself like bodily food; but you will be changed into me'”.

St. Augustine

17th Sunday of the Year
"When he finds one of great value...he sells everything"

Yes, there is a moment when we know, just know,
that something has affected us to the core of our being;
it can be the reward of the seach of a lifetime,
or a sudden something stopping us in our tracks.
The big question is: "will we give everything"?
Just remember: you are the pearl of great price for which He gave everything.

St. John of the cross
Spiritual Canticle 1,9

If you want to find a hidden treasure you must enter the hiding place secretly,
and once you have discovered it, you will also be hidden just as the treasure is hidden.
Since, then, your beloved Bridegroom is the treasure hidden in a field
for which the wise merchant sold all his possessions [Mt. 13:44], and that field is your soul,
in order to find him you should forget all your possessions and all creatures
and hide in the secret inner room of your spirit and there,
closing the door behind you (your will to all things),
you should pray to your Father in secret [Mt. 6:6].
Remaining hidden with him, you will experience him in hiding,
that is, in a way transcending all language and feeling.
Come, then, O beautiful soul!
Since you know now that your desired Beloved lives hidden within your heart,
strive to be really hidden with him,
and you will embrace him within you and experience him with loving affection.
Note that through Isaiah he calls you to this hiding place:
Come, enter into your inner rooms,
shut the door behind you; hide yourself a little, even for a moment.

16th Sunday of the year
Let us thank God today for those who live the Gospel in quiet fidelity.

They sow the seed in midst of the difficulties that surround us all.
They are the leaven invisibly raising the values of our church, society and world.
They don't make too much noise about darnel;
simply making sure that the seed is being sown and nourished, that the dough is being leavened.
They will shine like the sun!

Novena for Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Mary is in Carmel a presence on the way,
an icon that carries within her the Presence.
We guard a living presence within us, living temples, like Mary.

NOVENA PRAYER
POPE FRANCIS
Prayer to Mary, woman of listening*
Mary, woman of listening, open our ears;
grant us to know how to listen to the word of your Son Jesus
among the thousands of words of this world;
grant that we may listen to the reality in which we live,
to every person we encounter,
especially those who are poor,
in need, in hardship.

Mary, woman of decision, illuminate our mind and our heart,
so that we may obey, unhesitating, the word of your Son Jesus;
give us the courage to decide, not to let ourselves be dragged along,
letting others direct our life.

Mary, woman of action,
obtain that our hands and feet move “with haste” toward others,
to bring them the charity and love of your Son Jesus,
to bring the light of the Gospel to the world, as you did.
Amen.

Novena for Our Lady of Mount Carmel

"Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife..."

This Icon was written for our community whose title is
Carmelite Monastery of Our Lady and St. Joseph
and is now venerated at our Monastery in Bathgate.
As we contemplate the icon, let us pray for all couples.
Those in difficulties within their own relationship
or through external difficulties - war, oppression,
unemployment, financial difficulties.
Those unable to protect and provide for their children.
Let us also thank God for the all the wonderful couples
who through their fidelity give of themselves each day
for the well being of their families
and indeed for the whole of humanity.
