11th Sunday of the Year
"You shall be my treasured possession, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation"
This is how God sees us.
If we did but know the gift of God!
Jesus looks at the crowd in today's Gospel and sees them like sheep without a shepherd.
Who will help us to see ourselves as God sees us?
Only shepherds after his own heart.
He sends out his disciples with authority, but what kind of authority?
Authority over unclean spirits, to heal every disease and every affliction.
Let us pray earnestly that the labourers are such as these.
By the way, that includes you and me!

Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ

FOR YOU
The Crucifixion was an act of cruelty and injustice on an innocent man.
Jesus's words at the Last Supper raised it to a completely new level.
Jesus gave his life deliberately, in the deepest love for the Father and for us.
Jesus had said "he longed to share" this passover with his disciples;
it became the greatest act of human and Divine love ever.
Pouring out His life for us;
consecrating humanity to the Father on our behalf.
The greatest gift we could make to the Father,
the greatest gift the Father could give us.

Let us give thanks - Eucharist.

FEAST OF THE HOLY TRINITY
God is Relationship

Our intellect will help our understanding, but it will never get us there.

The Feast of the Blessed Trinity is the culmination of all we have celebrated over
Lent and Paschaltide.
At the Ascension Jesus took us in our humanity into the heart of the Trinity.
Through the gift of the Spirit,
the gift of love between the Father and the Son, now shared with us.
The more we can stay with this truth, the more
we can fulfil the seemingly impossible commandment:
to love God with our whole heart, mind and spirit,
and to love others with God's own love.
We are drawn into the very Heart of God.
Love and let ourself be loved.

"Receive the Holy Spirit."
As always, the liturgy brings to us today
what we celebrate in mystery.
The Risen Christ is with us
even though we do not always experience His presence.
He does not come through locked doors
but is already here.
"Jesus stood among them."
Today we are invited to receive the Holy Spirit;
the very Spirit constantly being breathed
from Father to Son
and then to us.
We are being invited into the heart of the Trinity,
the source of love.
We are invited to share that with all our brothers and sisters;
drawn into unity through our forgiveness of one another.
Forgiveness that can only come from that deep centre,
given to us to give to others.
Peace be with you!

7th Sunday of Easter
“I am praying for them.” John 17:9

Two beautiful pictures arise for us today:
In the Gospel: Jesus in prayer at the last supper praying for the disciples;
in the first reading: the nascent Church praying together in the same upper room.
The room where they heard the promise of the Holy Spirit is
now the place where they await that promise,
minds and hearts prepared for this as they share together
all that the scriptures had said about him,
and the deep experience of his presence after the Resurrection.
It is a call to all of us to share the scriptures together,
to share our experience of the Risen Lord,
to open our hearts for a great new outpouring of the
Spirit in our times.
