About Us:

Lawyers Without Borders is global group of volunteer lawyers from around the world who offer pro bono service to rule of law projects, capacity building and access to justice initiatives. For more information on the work that Lawyers without Borders undertakes, please see their website http://www.lawyerswithoutborders.org/ Our society, Lawyers Without Borders Student Division at Glasgow University, has a General Committee and two sub-Committees. The two sub-Committees are the Research Division and the Events and Fundraising Team. We are often looking for people to add to these sub-committees so if this is something you are interested in message our Page and we’ll let you know if there is availability. This is a great way to get involved with the Society and possibly put yourself forward to the General Committee (President, Treasurer, etc).

The Research Division aims to use their acquired academic knowledge in a practical way, which is often under-prioritised in university education. This is done by undertaking research projects from the Lawyers without Borders Parent Organisation as well as NGOs that require legal help. We have already undertaken one research project 2018/2019 for an external organisation which has been a great success. The Events and Fundraising Team aims to raise funds for both our society and the Parent Organisation. This is done in order to provide pro bono lawyers with resources to aid those in need in the countries of their focus. Events we have hosted include our Human Rights Competition ‘The Lawathon’, our social ‘Pints and Rights’, seminars and lectures including a talk with Aidan O’Neill QC, and an employability event coordinated with the Law School based on Human Rights careers. We also hope to organise an annual Human Rights Conference to be held at the University. All Glasgow University Students are welcome to come along to these events.

MEMBERSHIP: For 2018/2019 our membership fee is £3. This can be paid by bank transfer (message page for details) or you can sign up at any of our upcoming events.
