Eight years ago, as part of the Merchant City Festival, we brought The Anti-Apathy Ambassadors to the streets of Glasgow.

The Ambassadors are aliens who have landed on Earth, with Jane Fonda workout videos as their only reference for human behaviour. Through dance, play and shared discovery, they invite people to notice their surroundings differently, let go of their inhibitions and connect through joy.

That day, the city was also hosting a samba festival, creating an amazing collision of cultures, characters and experiences. Starting from GoMA, we met this lovely couple having their wedding photographs taken—and they invited the Ambassadors to join them!

The act was playful and funny, but it was also rooted in Loop’s inclusive practice: challenging preconceived ideas about who gets to perform, creating genuine connections between people and sharing the message that everything is achievable.

We still have the costumes, and it would be wonderful to revisit the Anti-Apathy Ambassadors one day.

Yesterday, Laura, Amy and Gemma welcomed some of our new volunteers for a lovely morning of connection, creativity and all things Loop.

We explored what volunteers can bring to Loop and what they hope to gain from being part of our community. Gemma also guided us through important conversations around safeguarding, risk assessment and creating a safe, supportive environment for everyone.

Of course, we gave everyone a little taste of the Loop experience too, sharing some of our classic games and creative activities. Everything we do is about how we work together—making sure everyone is seen, included and valued.

It was lovely to meet our newest volunteers, and we’re looking forward to welcoming them into our workshops and office, alongside the other brilliant new volunteers we’ve met over the summer.

Some of the Loop team returned to Merchant City Festival and SURGE Festival today to catch Liz Strange’s Rest Wagon – and we’re so glad we did.

What an absolute delight.

A playful, funny, joyful and beautifully inclusive performance that invited everyone to slow down, connect and embrace the simple act of resting together. It was thoughtful, engaging and full of gentle moments that made us smile.

We loved seeing public space transformed into somewhere people could pause, chat, laugh and simply be. The themes of care, access and connection really resonated with us, and it was a pleasure to be part of the experience.

A huge thank you and congratulations to Liz Strange and the whole creative team for creating such a beautiful piece of work. It was a real highlight of our day.

Today, some of the Loop community – Laura, Charmaine, Andrew, Katie, Marion, Rachel and Annette – headed into Glasgow city centre to enjoy the fantastic atmosphere of the Merchant City Festival and SURGE Festival.

One of the highlights of the day was cheering on our own Loop Ensemble member, John, who was performing with Nemo Arts as part of the SURGE Festival. It was wonderful to see his hard work come to life and to celebrate alongside him.

The city was absolutely buzzing. With the Merchant City Festival, SURGE Festival and Glasgow 2026 all contributing to the energy of the weekend, Glasgow was full of visitors from around the world. It was lovely to see the streets alive with music, performance, conversation and celebration.

We also enjoyed catching up with friends from across Glasgow’s creative community, discovering new performances, and taking in the incredible mix of street theatre, art and entertainment throughout the day. Days like today remind us how important it is to support one another, celebrate each other’s achievements, and come together through creativity.

There’s still plenty happening next weekend, so if you’re looking for a brilliant day out, we’d really encourage you to check out what’s on at both the Merchant City Festival and the SURGE Festival. We certainly didn’t manage to see everything, so we’re already looking forward to heading back to see even more!

This week at Bealach House we had great fun with our Rock ‘n’Roll & Dating theme!

We shared our best dance moves, explored vintage vinyl records, reminisced about dating and relationships, and enjoyed sharing some classic chat-up lines that brought plenty of laughter.

The afternoon ended with dancing and a fantastic singalong led by Emma, bringing everyone together through music, memories and smiles.

Over four sessions this week, our Saturday Ensemble Group had the privilege of working with Sita as part of a clown workshop.

Although we only had 12 hours together, it became so much more than learning about clowning.

The work invited us to slow down, be present, notice ourselves and each other, and discover what happens when we let go of trying to perform. There was joy, playfulness, vulnerability, connection and moments of real reflection. It wasn’t about getting the biggest laugh – it was about honesty, presence and being fully in the moment.

Our participants embraced every challenge with openness and courage, and it was wonderful to watch everyone’s confidence and curiosity grow across the four days.

A huge thank you to Sita for bringing such thoughtful, generous and meaningful work to Loop Theatre. We’re incredibly grateful you shared your practice with us, and we’re already looking forward to welcoming you back.

Last Friday our Bealach House group enjoyed a fantastic Commonwealth Games themed afternoon led by Thom.

After a gentle warm up, everyone took part in a series of fun team challenges inspired by the spirit of the Commonwealth Games. There was plenty of encouragement, laughter and teamwork as participants and volunteers supported one another throughout the session.

We also took some time to think about what it means to make people feel welcome. Together, participants and volunteers created thoughtful welcome cards and drawings for people who are new to Glasgow. These cards will be included in welcome packs distributed by Refuweegee, helping to share messages of kindness, friendship and belonging with New Glaswegians.

It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved, celebrating each other’s achievements and enjoying being active together in such a welcoming and inclusive environment.

A huge thank you to Thom for bringing so much energy and enthusiasm to the session, and to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped make the afternoon such a success.

Last Thursday, Thom joined our Friday group and led a session exploring musicals, theatre and classic shows.

We looked through and listened to vinyl records from the golden age of musicals, including Carousel, Oklahoma! and Hello, Dolly!. This sparked some wonderful conversations about the shows, musicals and bands we’ve all seen over the years, followed by a mini dance session with plenty of jives and slow dances.

We finished the day with Emma and Eilidh leading a singalong, with everyone joining in to Edelweiss and Do-Re-Mi from The Sound of Music.

Next week we’ll be at Parkhead exploring sport, the Commonwealth Games and community.

Yesterday our Ensemble Group headed to Largs for a day of creativity, connection and inspiration.

The Scottish weather certainly kept us on our toes, so we embraced the rain with a long lunch and some well-earned fish and chips before making our way to the beach.

Standing by the sea, we took time to slow down, breathe and simply be present. We listened to the waves, felt the wind, noticed the smells of the sea air and took in everything around us. We then set off on a scavenger hunt, collecting natural objects and creative stimulus to bring back with us as we continue developing our group choreography and exploring canon in our next block of work.

The train journeys there and back were filled with laughter, conversation and plenty of fun, reminding us that spending time together is just as important as the creative work itself.

Despite the rain, it was a wonderful day of shared experiences, teamwork and creativity, discovering inspiration through observing, listening, feeling and connecting with the world around us.

A huge thank you to our fantastic support staff and to all the friends, family members and carers who helped make the day possible. Your encouragement and support mean our participants can enjoy experiences like this and continue to grow in confidence, creativity and connection.
