We can all ASC: In their daily lives women (and men) living with domestic abuse come into contact with many different professionals, from their dentist, to their pharmacist, to their hairdresser. All of those professionals, if they know what to do, have the potential to offer their help. Our aim is to give all professionals the skills they need to ask the question, point people in the direction of the right support and show that they care. The ASC training approach is a collaboration between Medics against Violence, The Scottish Violence Reduction Unit and the Scottish Government along with other partners. The ASC brand may be new but we have been training in this field since 2010. We're using a train the trainers model to reach and raise awareness with as many people in as many different professions as possible. Our aim is to offer those living with abuse an increased number of opportunities to access help safely. Our training is simple and incorporates the AVDR (Ask Validate Document Refer) model developed in the USA by Dr Barbara Gerbert. Our training is free and ideally offered on a multi-professional basis to those willing to train other members of their profession. We offer training across Scotland from the Outer Hebrides to the Borders. We aim to train doctors, dentists, nurses, vets, allied health professionals, those working in social work and social care, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the hair and beauty industry but if you work in a front facing profession where you think this training would be of benefit please get in touch. Our training complements the training provided in parts of the NHS for routine enquiry, and would be useful to those who do not work in a role where routine enquiry is required, and the more extensive training provided to those who work in a violence against women role.
