Action for Children Scotland

Action for Children Scotland We support over 30,000 children and families each year in Scotland to ensure more safe and happy childhoods ⭐ We make life better for disabled children.

From before they’re born until they’re into their twenties, we help disadvantaged children across the UK. We help them through fostering or adoption – and by intervening early to stop neglect and abuse. We influence policy and advocate for change. Our 7,000 staff and volunteers operate over 600 services, improving the lives of 390,000 children, teenagers, parents and carers every year. We succeed by doing what’s right, doing what’s needed, and doing what works for children.

🆕 We’re pleased to share we've been funded by CashBack for Communities!

From April 2026 to March 2029, CashBack for Communities will invest up to £26 million in projects supporting young people aged 10–25 across Scotland.

The latest funding is focused on early and effective prevention, strengthening community connections, and creating positive opportunities for young people facing the greatest challenges.

📍 It will fund our new service ‘Cashback Connections’ to deliver support for young people who may be at risk of exploitation or criminalisation, and helping them build resilience to avoid going down that path.

That incudes one-to-one support, working with schools or community groups, encouraging safety and pro-social activities, and helping young people develop their skills via training and learning.

We’re proud to be part of this national partnership and look forward to delivering meaningful impact over the next three years.

🎬 A ‘close up’ for the Inverness intandem mentoring programme!

Recently a group of our amazing young people with our team and several kinship families headed off to the Scotsman Picture House for a private screening.

Joined by former children and young poeple's minster Natalie Don-Innes the evening featured a final cut film by three talented young people from the Inverness intandem programme

It was a positive inspiring reminder about how powerful mentoring can be. Shining a light on the supportive relationships at the core of intandem programme and shows the real difference mentors make in the lives of young people.

💫 So great to see the creativity, commitment, and personal growth shown by those involved. And why these connections mean so much.

✨ A shining moment, an inspirational story

So proud of 17-year-old Nicola, supported by our Dundee Youth Housing Service, who wowed guests at our Spring Ladies Lunch with her stunning jewellery design for this year’s Diamond Draw!

Following her work with us the opportunity came for Nicola to participate in our annual Spring Ladies Lunch fundraising event in London last weekend.
Building on her passion for fashion, she got the chance to learning design skills with fine jewellery designer Lottie Leigh. Nicola created a beautiful ring featuring Lottie’s donated cognac diamond and three symbolic stones representing ‘Action for Children’.

Seeing her sketch brought to life in 3D — and sharing that moment on stage — was a powerful reminder of what young people can achieve with the right support.

Thanks to everyone who joined us, the event raised over £90,000 to help children across the UK have safe, happy childhoods.

Here’s to Nicola — and to every young person finding their shining star ❤️

📢 We’re delighted to announce that thanks to National Lottery players, Action for Children has received almost £5 million from The National Lottery Community Fund.

The funding will be used to support children, young people and families at high risk of criminal exploitation across England, Scotland and Wales, something we’ve been doing since 2012. It will allow us to open five new criminal exploitation support services and support new activity at three of our existing services.

Peer mentors with lived experience of exploitation will be central to this work, providing intensive support to young people and shaping the project’s work to drive forward change.

“Many of our kids are living in poverty, they don’t have access to positive role models and have a lack of positive opportunities. It can seem like a hopeless situation. All young people want to have a good life, to be successful, to be someone. We need to show them they can have all of those things, that anything is possible. Seeing one young person turn it around makes it all worthwhile.” - Action for Children peer mentor
