Rags To Riches

Rags To Riches Rags to Riches is a Govanhill Baths Community Trust project.

Rags to Riches is an award-winning upcycling social enterprise that uses waste to promote environmental sustainability, community engagement and education in Glasgow and the surrounding areas. We employ the circular economy model to offer workshops within our own venues as well as providing outreach programmes to outside organisations to upskill, train and empower local groups and support vulnerab

le communities. Alongside workshops and community outreach, we also sell a range of handcrafted upcycled design collections on our online shop to create economic opportunities for local makers while actively reducing and reusing waste.

This event is part of 2026.

Unintended
An exhibition by Teresa Albor

An installation of sculptures and mobiles made from rejected recycled plastic tiles and 3D printing debris.

Materials have their own kind of intelligence, revealing both their strengths and limits. At the Deep End, plastic being recycled doesn’t always behave as intended—it can resist or turn out differently than planned. This installation focuses on those “failures,” treating them as moments of play and unexpected beauty. It highlights the creative potential in what doesn’t quite work, encouraging a rethinking of value, intention, perfection and what materials can do.

Come and chat to our teams and volunteers and find out more about how you can get involved, or ask any questions.

Date: Thursday 14th May
Time: 2-5pm
Booking: No need to book, just drop in on the day.
Address: The Deep End, 21 Nithsdale Street G41 2PZ

About the project
The GBCT Men’s Shed supports men’s health and wellbeing through woodwork, creativity and connection.

Meeting weekly in the Deep End Wood Workshop, the Shed brings together men with a wide range of skills and life experiences to work on personal and community projects, often using reclaimed materials. The space is welcoming and supportive: somewhere participants can learn practical skills, share knowledge, build friendships and support one another.

The Shed also provides a space where positive masculinity is encouraged, promoting openness, collaboration, respect and mutual care. Alongside practical making, the group offers opportunities for conversation and connection, helping reduce isolation and strengthen wellbeing.

Role Purpose

The Men’s Shed Facilitator will lead weekly sessions that combine creative woodworking activity with a supportive and inclusive group environment.

The facilitator will support participants to develop practical skills while fostering a culture of friendship, confidence and peer support. The role involves creating a space where men feel comfortable participating at their own pace, sharing knowledge and building relationships.

Working closely with Men’s Shed participants, GBCT staff and the Woodwork Technician, the facilitator will ensure sessions are safe, welcoming and responsive to participants’ needs.

On Saturday 21st March we celebrated in the street to mark the 25th anniversary of the historic occupation of . It was a joyful event which reminded us what we're all fighting for.

We enjoyed perfeomances from the amazing and speakers included those who were there at the original picket and young people from our youth club who have never had access to the pool.

We haven't given up the fight.

We've completed the external works making the building water tight, and restoring the brickwork. But due to the rising costs since the pandemic we've got more fundraising to do to complete the internal works.

You can help us by becoming a Friend of Govanhill Baths from as little as £1 a month.

Congratulations to the team for launching their new Wildflower Community Garden in the Gorbals today!

We were pleased to collaborate with a 6-week woodwork course with local residents. This culminated in a community build project where the group built their own wheelchair accessible planters and seating for the garden.

Also great to see our Larch and recycled plastic bee posts helping guide people along a pollinators path through the local area.

As we celebrate 25 years since the Govanhill Baths occupation, we’re reminded what collective action can do - a community standing up, reclaiming space, and reimagining what’s possible.

That same spirit lives on in our 100% recycled plastic Pond Chairs.

Made using waste plastic collected right here in Govanhill, Glasgow. Each chair is a small act of resistance against throwaway culture — turning what was once discarded into something built to last.

From reclaiming a historic public building to reshaping waste materials, it’s all part of the same story: people power, creativity, and care for our community and planet.

25 years is too long. SAVE OUR POOL!

Last week we were pleased to welcome Inverclyde Shed in a learning exchange showcasing our recycled plastic studio and Men's Shed project.

Here we demonstrated how broken and waste plastic toys collected from skips could be used to create a 100% recycled plastic sheet. This sheet will then be used as a test material Inverclyde can use to prototype recycled plastic products they can manufacture themselves.

The session involved product design, and more importantly a shared soup and chat!
