We are committed to ensuring that all support we provide is person-centred and outcome focused. This means that service users are always at the heart of decisions about the design and delivery of their support, and are supported to identify and reach goals that are important to them. With the rising number of elderly population who are lonely and isolated in the UK there is also an increasing need to support people in this area. We have therefore set up a Seniors Support group. The objectives of our Senior's project are; improving older people’s health and wellbeing and through companionship provided in both one-to-one services and social networking meet ups . The company is registered as a Community Interest Company.

As some of you may be aware, No.1 Befriending was unsuccessful in recieving GCF funding this year which is the bulk of our organisational funding. Because of this we are having to temporarily pause our service as we look for other funding possibilities.

We are really proud of what we have been able to achieve over the last few years, and know first-hand the importance and value of our service to older people in Glasgow facing loneliness and isolation. We also know the impact we've had on our volunteers - helping them gain more confidence and work out their next steps in life.

What a wonderful Volunteer Xmas Social! 🌲✨

We shared some positive quotes from volunteers and service users, made cute marshmallows snowman biscuits and Christmas cards for Befriendees. And we just generally shared the positive impact of Befriending and celebrated the dedication and kindness of our volunteers, as well as eating mince pies and drinking festive iron bru 💖🧡

This week we had a fabulous trip to Kelvingrove Art Gallery with a group of service users and volunteers.

We saw the Alasdair Gray exhibition, as well as his famous Cowcaddens painting, and caught one of the lunchtime organ concerts (which are free and on every day at 1pm!) washed down with a coffee in the cafe!

A great trip to the Willow Tea Rooms! ☕✨

We brought a group of our service users and volunteers for a tour of this fascinating building; followed by tea and cake and a stencilling workshop.

We also initiated our new volunteer coordinator by getting her to try on the Mackintosh waitress outfit!

What a fabulous volunteer social! ⚙️✨

We took our volunteers to see a tour and mini show of the amazing .theatre - the incredible kinetic sculptures made by Eduard Bersudsky - and hidden gem right in the heart of Glasgow. What a treat and great talking point over coffees and cakes afterwards!

Another fabulous trip to the movies! 🎬✨

We can't get enough of the Movie Memories programme by 💖

This time we went to see 'On the Town' - a classic musical romp from 1949 starring Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly!

One of our service users had lots of stories about working at the old ABC cinema that used to be round the corner from GFT. She remembered that in 1982 there were queues down the street and round the block for a certain very cute alien in touch with his feelings... Another of of our service users, coincidentally, remembers being in that very queue!
