The interim report of the Timms Review into PIP describes the assessment process as 'dehumanising' and 'degrading' and concludes PIP is 'not fit for purpose'.

The Review's recommendations won't be out until later in the year, but disabled people must be involved in developing them. Reforms to PIP must not be driven by financial cuts but based on the fact that investing in disabled people enables us to live independently, work, participate, and contribute fully in our own lives, our families, communities and wider society.

Trading Standards Scotland releases regular 'Scam Share' bulletins to let the public know about common scams and how to report them.

It is important to be aware of unprompted phone calls asking for personal information, door to door salespeople, and deals and loans that sound too good to be true. Legitimate salespeople will be happy for you to verify their identity or take time to think about an offer.

Independent Age has released their Older People's Economic Wellbeing Index for Scotland 2026. 1 in 5 older people in Scotland are living on an income of less than £15 000 a year. A large portion of those people are cutting back on heating, meals, and are unable to participate meaningfully in their communities.

The full report on Independent Age's website details their recommendations made to the Scottish Government to ensure older people are able to live a full, comfortable, and dignified life.

Today Engender (Scotland) launch their new report revealing the shocking extent of misogyny, harassment & abuse women councillors face in Scotland.

90% of women councillors surveyed shared that they had experienced sexism, misogyny or gender-based violence at some point during their career as a councillor in Scotland. It is clear that a permissive culture within many of our elected bodies persists, that fails to respond to sexist & misogynistic microaggressions, which in turn establishes a lack of accountability that enables more serious acts of violence.

Working Together: building capacity to support disabled people seeking asylum in Glasgow and beyond.

Funded by the University of Glasgow’s Glasgow Knowledge Exchange Fund the ‘Working Together Project’ is a collaboration involving third sector organisations in Glasgow (Govan Community Project, Glasgow Disability Alliance, Just Right Scotland and the Scottish Deep End Project), community members and academics, Dr Nicola Burns and Prof Andrea Williamson. Identifying a need for training and resources for organisations supporting disabled people seeking asylum, the project involved curating resources and producing three podcasts to support learning of primary care professionals and third sector organisations.

Background: Research on disability and migration has identified a lack of knowledge about disabled people’s experiences in the asylum system within public and third sector services, impacting their delivery of support and signposting to services. Key gaps identified:

- The lives of disabled people seeking asylum and their migration experiences
- Asylum system processes and evidence of need around disability
- Information gaps, legal entitlements and signposting for organisations supporting disabled people

In the current context of the racist disorder, violence & threats, GDA has been contacted by members who are afraid for themselves, their children & their neighbours. Some have told us they are scared to let their children travel to school on their own or on public transport.

We are appalled by this disorder, violence & the fear created. GDA stands in solidarity with people of colour including our members. Whether you made your homes in Scotland decades ago or are newly arrived, we support & respect you.
