MCR Pathways

MCR Pathways Just one hour a week can ignite the vital spark in a young person. Become a volunteer mentor today. https://mcrpathways.org Change a life.

Every young person has a vital spark within them - a unique potential waiting to be seen, nurtured and set alight. Through encouragement, empathy, and belief, you can become the catalyst that ignites the vital spark. By nurturing this spark, help young people to find the confidence to pursue their passions, believe in themselves, and confront their challenges. But the beauty of this idea is that t

he transformation flows both ways. By helping a young person uncover their inner light, you too may discover something powerful within yourself - a renewed sense of purpose, compassion and connection. Our award-winning mentoring programme believes in the power of connection, communication and the overall transformational potential of mentoring in school and community settings. We match adult volunteer mentors from all walks of life, careers and experiences with young people experiencing a range of challenging circumstances, to build confidence, overcome obstacles, awaken ambition and much more. Just one hour a week can ignite the vital spark in a young person, helping them find a path to positive futures. Be the difference in ensuring young people don’t have to navigate life’s toughest challenges alone. Together, let’s spark ambition and change lives through mentoring.

🎬 | Behind the scenes in the North East!

We’ve spent the past couple of days filming across North East England, and it has been an absolute privilege. We met with some of our incredible young people, dedicated mentors, and brilliant colleagues to capture their real experiences and share what mentoring is all about.

Their stories and passion shared on camera remind us exactly why this work matters so much. We can’t wait to share the final videos with you!

We are looking for Trusted Adult Volunteers Mentors to step up in Newcastle, Sunderland, or Middlesbrough. For just one hour a week, you could help guide a young person to a brighter future, through the power of mentoring.

🤝 | Volunteering is the Bedrock of our Society

As we celebrate Volunteers’ Week, we’re taking a moment to look at the incredible commitment our volunteer mentors give to young people every day across the UK and the wider impact they have in society.

Volunteering across the UK has faced a notable decline since the pandemic, yet Trusted Adult Volunteer Mentors act as a vital safety net. Mentoing supports young people into sustained, positive futures, which in turn reduces long-term public spending on unemployment and lowers the extra costs associated with school exclusion.

During the academic year 2024/25, our mentors dedicated 103,228 volunteering hours through 5,019 mentored relationships, translating to £1.3M in social value.

“I see volunteering as an important part of a healthy workplace culture. It helps people feel connected, not only to the communities around them, but to each other. Staff often tell me that mentoring is one of the most rewarding things that they do and that it's their favourite part of the week.” - Lynne McKenzie-Juette, People Director at MCR Pathways

As we shared in our mentor survey results earlier this week, volunteering isn’t just about giving back. It can transform our own lives and workplaces, too.

✨ 94% agreed their experience of mentoring was a positive experience
✨ 92% found personal fulfilment in helping others through mentoring
✨ 90% noted that mentoring helped them develop their active listening skills

💫 "Mentoring hasn’t just helped her; it’s helped me too."

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re spotlighting our incredible community of Trusted Adult Volunteer Mentors. Des, after a year of mentoring, has found that the experience of being a mentor has been as enlightening for him as it has been for his mentee.

Des shows that you don't need to be an expert to make a difference. You just need to be a friendly face who listens without judgment for one hour a week.
