A couple of projects from last week’s Open Bench 🔨

Anne joined us to build frames for an upcoming exhibition of her work. She’s an artist working with contemporary ink painting, water, paper and site-responsive research.

Andrew was working on a bookshelf, he wanted something handmade rather than something off the shelf, so decided to build his own.

A good evening of making and two very different projects taking shape.

The workshop has been busy with exciting commissions, repairs and restoration projects, as well as some brilliant community collaborations. If you’ve been thinking about bringing something in, getting a piece repaired or discussing an idea, send us a message, we’d love to hear from you.

The team (Chris and Alastair) recently completed work for Young Movers (YoMo), building grippy steps and a bike ramp for their new cycle cabin in Maryhill. The new additions will help make the cabin more accessible for the people using the space.

A lovely message from a recent customer following the completion of their bespoke dining table.

“My husband and I, are extremely grateful for the hard work, commitment and craftsmanship that has been demonstrated in the finished product - it truly is a piece of art and we are delighted to own it.”

From the initial conversation through to the final design, build and delivery, the table was carefully developed by Al and the Boomerang team.

It’s always special to see a finished piece in its new home. Thank you to Ken and Audrey for trusting us with the commission, we hope the table is enjoyed for many years to come.

First day of building at project in Townhead! This is the very start of building 2 archways for their grassroots garden. Today, folk were getting started on the first lattice trellis for the archway. We even got a couple of the mosaics up on the wall - a wee taste of what is to come over July!

Did you know our workshop is open once a week for anyone to book?

Bring along an old piece of furniture to restore, repair something that’s been sitting at home, or work on a project you’ve been meaning to start.

You’ll have access to the space, tools and support to get stuck in.
Open Bench currently runs every Tuesday from 6pm–8:30pm and everyone is welcome.

Please note: some basic woodworking experience is needed for Open Bench. If you’re completely new to woodworking, our Beginners Bench sessions are the best place to start.
