🔊 SIMON SCOTT at DUB CLUB 🔊

If the last 30 years of underground UK bass were a crime scene, Simon Scott’s fingerprints are all over it.

As a DJ, promoter, record collector and record shop owner, Simon has been putting in the work since the late ’80s. From Exodus and the beginnings of SUBDUB at Leed’s West Indian Centre, through to his own Tribe Records shop, Dancehall Science and of course Outlook and Dimensions, his impact on the UK bass underground is unmistakeable.

Simon demonstrates this ever-presence behind the decks. The most serious of collectors with a deep knowledge of Jamaican music and its many offshoots — roots, dub, rub-a-dub, digital dancehall, steppers, dubstep and beyond.

Simon joins us at The Art School for an extended session powered by Hometown Sound System.

One of the best in the game.

THIS TOWN AIN’T BIG ENOUGH FOR THE TWO OF US… 🌵

We’ve known and respected Mighty Oak for a long time, so we’re very happy to finally meet them properly in the dance at The Art School, over 7 years since we last played together at the African Arts Centre 🔊

We’ll be loading the full Hometown system into The Assembly Hall upstairs to go up against Mighty Oak Sound System — two sounds, two sets of boxes, tune for tune.

We’ll have Horseman alongside us on the mic, with Ista Lion riding with Mighty Oak.

Plenty of mutual respect between the two camps, but only one sound can leave town standing 🤠 🐎

James Hometown on SSL x EDC 🗣️:

“After more than ten years of Hometown, this will be the first time we’ve taken the full sound system through to Edinburgh for a flagship session like this. It feels like the right moment, and the right people to be doing it with.

Hometown’s activity as a sound system has always jumped between the traditions of reggae and dancehall and the newer forms of UK bass music that have grown from them — dubstep, grime, 140 and beyond.

Over the years we’ve worked independently with both Edinburgh Dub Club and SSL, so bringing all three together alongside a serious cast of sound system artists really strikes a chord with us as a collective. There’s a lot happening around sound system music in Scotland just now, across different generations, cities and styles, and this feels like a proper meeting point for it.

We’ll be closing out the night on the full Hometown rig with longtime comrade Horseman, running a special SOUND SYSTEM MUZIK set moving through 140, dubstep, dancehall and reggae.” - James Hometown
