Bowls Scotland Ladies District 12 update -

Unfortunately it wasn't to be for our Ladies Over 55s Singles semi-finalists this afternoon. with Helen Allison losing out to Auchinloch Bowling Club's Mhairi Campbell.

Mhairi will now play Gillian McCalmont of Kilsyth in the District Final after her win over Anne Marie Kennedy.

Good luck to both ladies in the final, and commiserations to Helen and Anne Marie, who have more than the consolation of a place in the District Pairs final to look forward to.

Unfortunately the bad news continued with our Ladies Over 55s Fours also losing out and our good wishes go to their opponents , from Kirkintilloch Bowling Club in the final.

Well done to all for getting so far in the competitions

Good news coming in is that the Lenzie five of Drew Cunningham, Scott Cunningham, Steven Dow, Calum Kidd and Ian McLelland have secured the three wins necessary against a strong Condorrat team, thus progressing to the Inter-District Final of the competition.

It was another good wee Club afternoon today when we held the annual Gavin Bell Trophy balloted pairs competition.

Going into the last round of games of this round-robin competition, only two teams emerged undefeated and were drawn to face each other in a decent climax to the afternoon.

In the five end match, the turning point was a "kill" of scoring 3 in the third end, leaving Jamie Gunning, David Frame, Nick Keys and George Deacon chasing the game. Despite every effort, including consideration of what could only be described as a last bowl "trick shot", the lead could not be overcome.

Undefeated on the day, the winners were Frank Brownlie, George Dunlop, Stewart Gunning (mercilessly beating his son in the last game) and Ian "Mad Mac" McLelland.

Well done all, even to Jim Caskie's unfortunate four that seemed to lay down to all of the teams they faced!!

Bowls Scotland District 12 Ladies competition update:

Today's events saw two more of the Club's representatives progress to District Finals stage, in the Pairs and the Under 25s'.

Ashton Anderson progresses to the District final without having played a game, which is a shame for the competition, their opposition not appearing for the tie today. Ash is more than capable of reaching that stage in any event, and we wish them well in the District final, next week, where they will play Greenfaulds' Deo Clark (whom we understand also had a walkover today).

The opposition very much "turned up" in the Ladies Pairs, where Anne-Marie Kennedy and Helen Allison took part in what seemed to be an epic tussle, coming back from a 3-9 deficit, to reach a peels at 11, at 11 ends. A couple of shots lead was then maintained until the 17th end concluded at 16 apiece. The Lenzie Pair won in the extra end to progress to the final, and commiserations must go to their Kirkintilloch opposition.

Congratulations to all involved.

Helen and Anne-Marie will be hoping for less stress, when they play in opposite semi-finals in the Over 55s Singles tomorrow, at Victoria Bowling Club, Torrance. play starting 1pm.

Play well ladies!

Bowls Scotland District 12 Gents Semi-Finals update -

It has been generally a good day for the Club in the semi-finals matches.

This afternoon, at Campsie, saw a win for our Over 55s Fours - Tom Dow, Eric Archibald, David Wood & Alan Laurie over Stoneyetts.

In this evening's games, Michael King put up a great competitive performance and was unfortunate to lose out 19-21 in the Under 25s' Singles, in a match that could have gone either way. Good luck to Banton's Alexander Walker in the District Final.

In the Singles, Drew Cunningham was successful in his match against Strathblane's Malcolm Maclean and he will now face Graham Jardine from Milton of Camspie in the District Final. Graham took part in a tremendous spectacle against Frank Hillis of Cumbernauld, after a match of two halves went to 21-20.

Our Triples of Andrew Taylor, Colin Dow & Calum Kidd had a gtreat tussle with the Kilsyth trio in a match that could have gone either way with only two shots separating the teams going into the last end. They will now face Westermains.

Gavin Ansari, Ben Major, Scott Cunningham & Steven Dow secured their place in the District Final with a convincing win over Campsie, and will now face Condorrat.

Four representatives in the Gents District Finals is a great outcome. Well done to all involved
