Members of SSAFA Ayrshire Branch were involved recently in South Ayrshires Field of Heroes to commemorate the 110th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, 1st July - 13th July. They assisted with setting up around 130 Tommy and animal silhouettes, attended the tour at 07.30hrs and service at 19.00hrs on the 1st of July, then volunteered to assist the public in reading QR codes to tell the stories of the local boys and men, some who came home and others not so lucky. Narrated some of the stories, met some people related to these men, heard the fateful stories of the battles told by Terry Wright and Ken Nairn then it was all over and we assisted in the dismantling, careful packing of the silhouettes.
If you would like to be involved in various events and feel you could spare some time to get involved with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity why not get in touch and become a community engagement volunteer?

πŸ•ŠοΈ Support Through Loss – SSAFA is Here for You

Losing a loved one is never easy. If you are part of the Armed Forces community β€” whether you are a veteran, serving member, or a family member β€” SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity, is here to support you through bereavement.

How can SSAFA help?

Everyone needs different support when they are grieving. SSAFA offers:

If you need emotional support, our volunteers can be there to listen as you come to terms with your loss. If you are struggling with finances or your personal circumstances change following your loss, they can look for ways to assist you with practical challenges and may be able to get you help with the financial costs associated with your situation, such as moving house.

If someone you love has served in the Armed Forces β€” or if you’re ex-Forces and have lost someone close β€” you are not alone. SSAFA is committed to helping you through this time.

πŸ’œ Purple Up! for the Month of the Military Child πŸ’œ

April is the Month of the Military Child (MotMC), a time to recognise and celebrate the incredible role that Service children play in the Armed Forces community. These children make daily sacrifices and overcome unique challenges, and this month is all about honouring their strength, resilience, and contributions.

On 24 April, supporters from within and beyond the Armed Forces community are encouraged to Purple Up! by wearing purple to show their support for Service children. Whether you’re part of a military family, a veteran, or simply want to stand in solidarity, this is your chance to make a difference.

How can you get involved?

πŸ’œ Wear purple on 24 April and share your photos with us!
πŸ’œ Spread the word in your community about the importance of supporting Service children.
πŸ’œShare your stories or messages of support in the comments below.

Let’s come together to celebrate and support the children of our Armed Forces community. Will you Purple Up! for Service children?

🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Veterans Breakfast Clubs – Ayrshire & Arran β˜•πŸ₯“

We know from personal experience just how important the Veterans Breakfast Clubs across Ayrshire and Arran are πŸ’™.

Veterans within our own SSAFA Ayrshire & Arran volunteer team regularly attend these clubs and speak so highly of them.

These breakfast clubs play a vital role in bringing veterans together β€” offering friendship, peer support, and a strong sense of community. They also help support wellbeing and make the transition into civilian life that little bit easier.

And yes… the breakfasts are very nice too! β˜•πŸ³

Please share this post and help us reach veterans across Ayrshire and Arran.
