What is food insecurity?

Food insecurity is not just the lack of access to consistent, reliable and affordable food to live a healthy lifestyle.

It’s that feeling of not being sure if there’ll be enough food to get through the week. It’s skipping meals so someone else in the family can eat. It’s standing in the supermarket, adding things up, and putting items back because you just can’t stretch any further.

For many people on our doorstep, this is the reality of every day life.

Spirit Aid is here to support those facing these challenges with our weekly food hamper drop offs in our local area, but we can’t do it without your help.

If you’re able to, please consider donating. Even a small amount can make a real difference 💙

Behind every number are real people facing real challenges.

Some communities are disproportionately affected, including single parents, people living with disabilities, and individuals from minority ethnic backgrounds. These are families and individuals who are often navigating additional barriers, yet still going unheard.

Spirit Aid are committed to supporting those who need it most by providing help, creating opportunities, and working towards a future where everyone has a fair chance.

Today, we are highlighting ECG Facility Services - one of the fantastic companies that support us 🤝

Their ongoing support plays a vital role in helping us deliver initiatives that make a real difference in people’s lives, including our Christmas Toy Appeal, supporting those dealing with food and fuel poverty, working with local schools, and creating opportunities for young people.

ECG have also gone the extra mile by taking part in the annual Kiltwalk, raising vital funds to support our work and the communities we serve.

Partnerships like this truly help us go further, reach more people, and create lasting impact.

Thank you, ECG, for standing with us 💙

Poverty isn't always visible, but it's impact is felt every single day.

In March 2026, the Scottish Government reported that more than 1 in 5 children in Scotland are currently living in relative poverty after housing costs. Behind this figure are families facing impossible choices between food, heating, rent, and other everyday essentials.

Spirit Aid believes that everyone deserves dignity, hope, and the opportunity to thrive. Through community partnerships and the generosity of our supporters, we're working to make a big difference to those on our doorstep who are struggling.

Have you been thinking about taking on the Kiltwalk - one of Scotland's most popular fundraisers? 👣

Here's a testimonial from one of this year's participants who experienced first-hand the sense of community, achievement, and purpose that comes along with this challenge.

We hope this story inspires you to join Team Spirit Aid at next year's Kiltwalk, where we'll walk together to make every mile count!
