Now the speech 🎤

From The Glasgow Wood Recycling Project back in 2006, all the way to Glasgow Wood today, we can't believe it's been 20 years of this place.

I think everyone that's been with us over the years knows that it's been a real journey, and we'd like to thank every single one of you who has supported us. Whether that's through a purchase, a pledge to our Crowdfunder, a share, a visit, a recommendation to a friend, anything. We're so grateful to you, the community, who have helped us through every single milestone!

As a charity and social enterprise, we're proud to...

🤝 be able to offer volunteering opportunities to people in the community experiencing social isolation or barriers to employment, helping people to learn new skills, build confidence and gain experience

♻️ reuse and rehouse vast quantities of waste timber, for sale in our timber yard or use in our workshop to build all sorts of furniture and larger structures

📈 help local businesses and individuals to reduce their environmental impact by offering waste wood collection services

❤️ be able to produce made-to-order indoor and outdoor furniture & bespoke design services at an affordable price, all while creating positive environmental and social impact

🏡 be putting our trading income back into our charitable work, helping us continue to create positive impacts for people and planet

So thank you again to everyone, past and present, who's supported us over the years. Here's to another wild 20 years!!

Did you know we have X frame benches and dining tables available to order?

It's crazy to think our Ben Nevis and matching Gigha bench are now over 2 years old - it feels like forever that we've been producing them! Although maybe it's just because so many different styles have been made in our workshop... 😂

Available in powder coated black or raw steel, and either trapezoid, cross or spider in shape, there's lots of options to suit lots of different spaces. And if there's another frame style you like the look of, or you have something pre-existing, we'd be happy to look into fitting a top for you.

Don't forget, reclaimed scaffold board tops can also be made-to-order in size - because we know everyones dining space is different! 📏

“The garden is a really priceless and peaceful environment.”
— Young person, J

Before and after photos of us helping Ortus Design to transform Brediland Road Care House's huge lush lawn into something more enjoyable and functional!

Brediland Road is a local authority care house for young people in the Linwood/Paisley area of Renfrewshire, Scotland. With a large, open garden that was underused, Ortus were brought in to transform the space into an inviting outdoor area for the young people to enjoy with their families, friends and support staff.

When Pauline contacted us, we we're absolutely delighted to be involved in bringing the design to life, creating a range of bespoke timber features including curved seating, a swing, archways and bug hotels.

The finished garden provides different spaces to sit, play, explore and connect with nature, helping to turn this huge, open lawn into somewhere the young people can genuinely enjoy and make their own.

We love projects like this because they show how thoughtful design, sustainable materials and the cumulative contributions of local businesses can come together to create spaces that make a real difference to the community. 🌿

Bespoke-sized moveable storage crates made for Millport Outdoors - a take on our standard Storage crate available via the online shop 👀

Quiet but mighty storage that sits in the background and helps to keep Juli's amazing retail space on the Isle of Cumbrae tidy and organised. It's amazing what a set of casters can do, especially when they're lockable. 🔐

Some pretty incredible wh**ky stave furniture which lives outside Ardbeg distillery on Islay 👀

Disclaimer: it's not been made by us! 😂

We're seeing a lot of you purchasing bulks of our wh**ky staves at the moment, so please share what you're up to with them! At Glasgow Wood, we're all about up-cycling more and inspiring others in the community to do the same.

We've made a few things in our time too, but with a curved trapezoid shape, they're challenging to work with and their outputs are limited because every single one is unique 😅

If you fancy taking on the challenge, staves are available to reserve here👇

The SWG3 Garden at Doors Open Day on a very blustery Friday in Glasgow 🫨💨

Big thank you to Mary Redmond and Kate Drummond for taking us on a tour of the gardens and community allotment, and telling us about the journey of the gardens as a whole! It was wonderful to have them explain how the garden transforms with the seasons according to the plants that bloom - they've really thought hard about making a space that's enjoyable all year round.

In the community allotment, it was way back in winter 2023 when we first delivered the raised beds (and picnic benches!). Officially opened in summer 2024, it's so great to see them still filled with produce and being enjoyed over 2 years later.

At the end we took clippings of Salix Mount Aso - a striking deciduous shrub famous for its fluffy, vibrant pinkish-red catkins which appear in late winter/early spring. They're hardy plants we're told, so maybe you'll see some down on South Street if we successfully take them from clipping to bush... keep your eyes peeled! 👀

The garden will be opening to the public soon too, another thing to keep your eyes peeled for!
