Our 2025/26 Winter Project came to a close at the end of March, and today we're pleased to release our season report, highlighting the impact made possible through the support of our staff, volunteers, funders and partners.

This winter, Glasgow City Mission supported 478 people experiencing homelessness through a hybrid model that combined emergency overnight accommodation with ongoing housing support. We provided 1,051 emergency bed nights, more than 1,250 face-to-face interactions, and helped 87% of guests move towards positive outcomes.

Behind every statistic is a person, a story, and a reminder of the difference that can be made through working effectively with our partners in tackling homelessness.

None of this would have been possible without the commitment of our staff and volunteers, the generosity of our funders, and the partnership of organisations across Glasgow. Thank you for standing alongside us.

We were delighted to attend the Scottish National Prayer Breakfast at Prestonfield House in Edinburgh today, where hundreds of representatives from politics, business, churches, charities and other organisations gathered to pray for Scotland around the theme of integrity.

We were invited to share a short video highlighting the work and legacy of Glasgow City Mission. Titled The Constant Call, the video tells the story of a young Glaswegian who, 200 years ago, felt called to respond to the needs of those living in poverty. It highlights how the same mission has continued steadily over the past two centuries and remains at the heart of our work today.

For our fifth Volunteers’ Week spotlight, we’d like you to meet Serveh. Having experienced the challenges of adapting to a new environment herself, she understands the importance of kindness, encouragement and community—and now shares those gifts with others through our ESOL classes:

“As an Iranian woman living in Glasgow, volunteering with the ESOL class at Glasgow City Mission is something I truly enjoy. I know what it is like to search for the right words, to feel uncertain, and to slowly gain confidence in a new environment. That is why I treasure every conversation, every smile and every breakthrough in the classroom. It brings me great joy to be able to help others on their journey.

The ESOL class is much more than a place to learn English. It is a place where friendships begin, cultures meet and people are reminded that they are not alone.

Volunteering has shown me that sometimes the most important thing we can offer is our time, our encouragement and our willingness to listen. In a world that can often feel divided, our classroom is a small but powerful example of what community looks like.”

Hassan volunteers at our ESOL class and helps serve during lunchtime drop-in. We asked him what he enjoys about volunteering at Glasgow City Mission:

“I first came to Glasgow City Mission in 2022 to improve my English and grow in my faith. It quickly became a place where I felt welcomed, supported and encouraged. Through the people I met and the opportunities to learn and grow, the Mission became a real source of hope and positivity in my life.

Because of that experience, I decided to become a volunteer.

Now I have the opportunity to serve others with love, compassion and generosity, sharing kindness and encouragement while making a positive difference in people’s lives. It’s a privilege to give back to a community that has given so much to me.”

For 200 years, Glasgow City Mission has been opening its doors to people facing homelessness, poverty, addiction and isolation across our city.

This spring, we're inviting you to help write the next chapter.

Right now, someone in Glasgow is searching for warmth, safety, support, and hope. Through a hot meal, a welcoming conversation, addiction recovery support, emergency accommodation, or help for families in crisis, lives are being transformed every day.

One of those lives was Brian's. Following the devastating loss of his wife, Brian found himself isolated and struggling with alcohol. A simple act of kindness at Glasgow City Mission became the first step on a journey towards recovery, community, and renewed hope.

As we celebrate our 200th anniversary, your support can help ensure that the next person who walks through our doors finds the same welcome.

Every gift helps provide practical support, dignity, and hope for people who need it most.

Today is the third day of Volunteers' Week and we're featuring Nicola. Nicola first joined the Glasgow City Mission family in 2024 as an intern and now volunteers, helping out in our drop-ins and our Women's Group:

“I first came to Glasgow City Mission as an intern, before continuing on placement. Through that time, I grew in confidence, developed new skills and discovered how much I loved being part of the Mission community.

When my placement came to an end, I knew I didn’t want my time here to finish. I wanted to stay on as a volunteer because I love the people, the sense of community, and being part of something that makes a real difference in people’s lives.”
