SiMY Community Development

SiMY Community Development SiMY works alongside young people and their families to help them achieve their hopes and ambitions for themselves and their community.

The overall aim of SiMY is to develop a sustainable programme of activities for young people and their families in Townhead and the surrounding area which contribute to the development of both individuals and the community as a whole. All activity at SiMY is underpinned by a commitment to experiential learning, which takes place in a range of mainly non-formal and informal settings. We offer adve

nture learning that provides challenging experiences with an uncertain outcome. We seek to stimulate self-reflection to help turn experience into learning. We offer constructive support that helps to make sense of failure and celebrates success. We provide opportunities for service to encourage compassion and make connections between various parts of the community.

Last week, Jess and Molly went down to St Mungo's Primary school for their P1 information day. Thanks for inviting us! It was lovely to see the kids getting to know their new school for the first time, chatting with parents and the other services in the area. Collectively, we make a thriving community 😀👭❤️

This year SiMY is supporting the Mental Health Foundation’s ‘Wear it Green’ day in aid of mental health awareness week (11-17th May).

At SiMY, one of the core aims of our programme is improving young people’s mental health through nature engagement and creative activities. Did you know that spending just 15 to 20 minutes a day in nature can drastically improve mental health by reducing cortisol levels and easing anxiety. So now that the weather is getting brighter why not take a nature walk this weekend?

While some of the secondary group were away on residential last week, the rest of us had 3 great activity days at home. We started the week with an Easter egg hunt and way too much chocolate! And after we’d treated ourselves we got to work in our community garden and on our mosaic signs. Then on Thursday we headed to to do some kayaking, paddleboarding, and bushcraft activities. We finished the week off strong on Friday with a trip to the Pavilion Theatre to see ‘s show ‘State of the Nation’ as part of our Radical Art School.

Follow us to see what we get up to this week for the 2nd week of Easter holiday activities!
