📢 We have some news!

We are pleased to share that the Scottish Government has now confirmed its commitment to continue funding See Me through 2026/27 and its work to end mental health stigma and discrimination in Scotland.

As part of this, See Me will be undergoing a change in managing partners from April.

Currently, the programme is managed by the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) and Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH). While MHF will remain as one of our managing partners, the programme will be transitioning from SAMH to new managing partner, Penumbra.

See Me Director, Wendy Halliday, said: “We’re grateful to the Scottish Government for this continued funding, allowing us to build on the extensive programme of anti-stigma work over the last 24 years.

“We’re also very grateful to our friends and colleagues from SAMH who have partnered with us during this time. Together, we have achieved so much in advancing the anti-stigma agenda in Scotland – work that has always been shaped by the lived and living experiences of supporters, volunteers, youth consultants, and the communities we work alongside. We thank them for their allyship.

“We’re looking forward to this exciting next phase of work with our new partner, Penumbra, with continued support from MHF. Together, we will continue to build on the great partnerships and work to date and do more to reduce mental health stigma and discrimination.”

Our research shows that 47% of people feel confident to challenge stigma and discrimination, but we need that number to be much higher, so no one is treated unfairly when they’re struggling.

Understanding what stigma looks like is one thing – but knowing how to challenge it is something that lots of people find difficult.

It can be difficult to talk about your mental health when you’re struggling, and when people do speak out, they often feel that they are let down and misunderstood by family, friends, health professionals and work colleagues.

If you have experienced stigma and discrimination due to mental health problems then it's likely to have had a profound impact on your day to day life

Our volunteer Tommy has been hard at work creating stigma-free spaces for people to talk.

Tommy Kelly has teamed up with Robert Duncan and Jim McLean, who co-own Elite Fitness in Kilmarnock, to create Elite Mindset.

This new free community mental health and fitness initiative, open to men and women, provides a welcoming and supportive environment, led by people with lived experience.

You can use gym equipment, receive training support, and access a safe, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about anything you may be struggling with.

Alongside weekly gym classes, there will be monthly community events that include walk and talks, cold water dips and hill climbs.
