We need some volunteers this weekend to help us clear the maze paths so our little explorers can find the fairy house again.

Meet near the cafe from 9:50am or find us in the maze. Tools provided.

Its been a while since our last newsletter, but the Friends of Newlands Park volunteers have been busy over the past few months so there’s lots of news to share. And its not just our regular gardening volunteers; we are also focusing on the things that, based on our surveys, we know are important to many of the people who visit the park on a regular basis.

You can read the newsletter here, but why not subscribe and get it delivered straight to your inbox so that you don’t miss out on the latest news. See subscription link in the comments

The trees of Newlands Park are looking absolutely magnificent just now, in their early summer clothing.
We are planning to create some activity sheets for children, and the first one will be to find and identify trees from their leaves. It was a bit too windy to get good photos of the leaves for the worksheet, but it was a good opportunity to get some photos of some of the trees.
We are so lucky to have such a variety of species in our park. Do you have a favourite tree?

It's back!

We are absolutely delighted to announce that our missing sign was discovered a few hundred metres away from the park, hidden between a fence and a hedge. Miraculously, it was undamaged.

We have no idea who took it and why? I suspect we never will, but we are very grateful to have it back as it would have cost around £500 to replace it, money we would much rather spend on other things to enhance our beautiful park.

Thank you so much to the person that found it and kept it safe.

Thanks to some kind volunteers, we now have bird boxes in the park and hope to have some new residents at the next nesting season!

The locations for the bird boxes were recommended by the Glasgow City Council Park Rangers, who visited the park recently to provide advice on how to encourage more small birds to visit the park.

Sincere thanks to Gavin who made and donated the boxes, to Patricia for laminating the little notices on the base, to Alan for putting them up and to Sheilagh for holding the ladder and passing up the screws.

Just 5 women turned up for our Saturday Hit Squad this morning.

Join the 'hit squad' this Saturday!

Can you spare an hour or two between 10 and 12 this Saturday 14th March?

We will be pruning bushes along the Carlaverock Road edge, near the tennis courts.

Its great exercise, and you will be making a noticeable difference in just a couple of hours.

Tools and safety equipment will be provided, or bring your own.
