👂🫓

No trending audio on this post to allow for the beautiful sound of the HYG learners hard at work making chapatis.

This tactile activity works fine motor skills and hand strength, allows us to focus and create something delicious from a few simple pantry ingredients.

Did you know the average cost of a packet of chapatis at your local supermarket is £1.55. Making 6 of these at home costs 55p.

Shop bought chapatis are classed as a highly processed product containing a long list of preservatives and additives.

Let us know if you would like our learners recipe for their chapatis. Quick, healthy, nutritious, budget friendly and such fun to make!

From the vine to our plate🍅❤️

Remember those delicious ripe tomatoes?

The Help Yourself Grow team worked together to transform these into tomato soup for everyone to enjoy🍲🤗

Our tomatoes didn't just become soup - they became an opportunity to learn, cook and share.

The HYG Social and Therapeutic Horticulture Programme is so much more than "gardening". It's about building confidence, developing life skills, working together, and witnessing the journey from seed to plate.

We currently have some available spaces at this project and can offer a free taster session. Interested in finding out more...

💧 Harvesting rainwater in our garden

Craig explains how we are harvesting rainwater and making the most of what nature gives us. 🌧️🌱

The team recently fitted a connection to the guttering, diverting rainwater into our large water butt.

But with the amount of water we can get during a heavy downpour, we wanted to collect even more. So we have now connected a second, smaller water butt to the original using a connecting pipe.

Craig and Ben have also been working hard on landscaping, building and making improvements around the garden.

👩🏻‍🍳🧑🏼‍🍳👨‍🌾👩‍🌾🪴🪏🔪🎨

Another busy week last week at Help Yourself Grow🤝🙌🌱

At our cookery sessions we focused on building flavour profiles as our learners worked on creating a risotto and a curry😋

These dishes provide an opportunity to:

Develop sautéing skills🍳
Work on sequencing➡️
Control heat🔥
Incorporating stock🥣

Our gardeners had an equally busy week;

Weeding🪏
Harvesting the last of the raspberries🌾
Litter picking and working at the compost bay.🚯
Painting at our tool container art project👨‍🎨👩‍🎨

As Autumn approaches our teams spent time with trainer Scott as they discussed activities they would like to do over the winter months🥶💭🤔🎃🦇

We have so much to share from our garden space as the teams continue to develop and nurture the land.🌍💚🌳

Remember to like our page to follow our progress👍
