Maryhill Burgh Halls Maryhill Burgh Halls, a community-led organisation set up by Maryhill Burgh Halls Trust. Welcome to the official page for Maryhill Burgh Halls!

We serve as a local community hub and offer many different activities including: building tours, free walking tours around Maryhill, engaging schools programmes and workshops which focus on heritage and nature, the opportunity to learn and grow as a valued volunteer etc. We are also home to Maryhill Museum and regularly hold exhibitions with a local focus. You can help us to support our work in the local community by renting our spaces for events, festivals, weddings, family celebrations and conferences. We also have a number spaces available to let for local businesses. Ever wondered who decides how Maryhill changes? 🤔

Here’s the thing: we can have a say too. Communities in Scotland can write their own Local Place Plan, and Maryhill doesn’t have one yet. So we’re getting the ball rolling, and we’d love you to be part of it.

It’s a plan written by local people about how our streets, buildings and green spaces are used, protected and improved. When it’s done, the council has to take it into account when making plans for Glasgow’s future. It’s Maryhill, in our own words.

The more neighbours who join in, the stronger it’ll be. Pop along and tell us what you think

Tucked away in the background is The Whitehouse, the oldest building still standing in Maryhill. Back then it sat beside a busy canal and was run by 30 years old William Aitken and his wife Mary. Now it's our newest home.

New blog alert! ✍️

John tells the story of the Kelvin Dock, the pub that served the community from 1848 until 2024.

Its name isn't a coincidence. It comes from the old graving dock on the Forth & Clyde Canal, just along from Lock 22, where ships were repaired back in the canal's working days.

Fancy finding out more? Pop in and see Every Picture Tells A Story, our exhibition all about that very stretch of canal and the people connected to it. Runs until 11th October.

We're here at Maryhill Burgh Halls in the Garden Room until 5pm. Meet our graduate apprentice engineers Majd and Andrew and Heritage Manager Chris. We have dam-building and a canal walk challenge for kids, and you can find out about canal engineering and history as well as our Kelvin Aqueduct repair project!

It's all part of Glasgow's Doors Open Days Festival! You can see our joint exhibition about canal history here too!
