📢 Your Community, Your Say, Women's Priorities

Libraries, town halls, sports centres and other spaces are at the heart of our communities. They bring people together, help tackle inequality and discrimination and create opportunities for connection and support. Yet across Scotland, too many of these important spaces are disappearing.

The Scottish Women's Convention is bringing women together to share experiences, ideas and to call for greater investment in the community spaces that help build stronger, more connected communities.

Women across Scotland are impacted by harm from gambling, facing everything from financial coercion to severe strain on their mental health and housing. Despite this widespread impact, traditional support services are rarely designed with women’s unique experiences in mind so they fail to address gender-specific trauma, safety, and stigma.

⚽️This World Cup, the SWC is proud to partner with Aila Scotland. Aila is a safe space for women impacted by their own or someone else's gambling in Scotland. For women, by women.

💬 Together, we are amplifying women's voices, bringing women’s lived experiences to the conversation, and demanding better gendered support. Let's make women's safety and specific needs a priority, throughout the world cup and beyond.

For many the world cup is just a form of entertainment.
But for some women in Scotland, it may feel like a countdown to a tense home environment. When a loved one is involved with harmful gambling, women may be left to deal with the impact.

The Scottish Women's Convention and Aila are joining forces to say: you do not have to carry this alone. Your safety and wellbeing matter.

Aila, in partnership with the Scottish Women's Convention, are challenging the stigma surrounding women and gambling this World Cup.

Women often gamble for different reasons than men - as a way to escape stress, trauma, or loneliness. Major tournaments only amplify that pressure, making it more important than ever to keep yourself safe.

You are not alone. You can read real-life stories from women who have experienced harm from their own gambling in our Lived and Living Library at aila-scotland.co.uk.
