Our response to the Scottish Government's Programme for Government 👇
📣The Scottish Women’s Convention (SWC) welcomes several important commitments made in the Scottish Government’s Programme for Government. Particularly in relation to women’s health, childcare, affordable housing and social care pay. We also welcome legislation to address misogyny and violence against women and girls. These are positive developments and reflect many of the priorities consistently raised with us by women across Scotland.
These commitments must be matched by effective and timely delivery. Women need to see noticeable improvements in their everyday lives now. These include safer communities, accessible and responsive public services, secure housing and greater economic security. Progress cannot solely rely on future consultations or longer-term programmes of reform when the need for action is already clear.
The SWC remains committed to working constructively with the Scottish Government to help translate their commitments into meaningful outcomes. Whilst we will certainly acknowledge progress as it is being made, we will also continue to challenge areas where delivery does not meet the needs and expectations of the women we represent.
Women’s lived experience must not only inform policy development, it has to be reflected in the decisions, investment and outcomes that follow.
