Courage isn’t always loud or bold. It can be found in simple acts of kindness: opening your door to a neighbour, helping someone who is new to your community, or even a giving someone a simple smile and hello.

This Refugee Week, join our campaign to learn how your acts of kindness can go a long way, helping refugees feel welcome and safe in your community.

🌧️ It may be raining outside, but the Hub is looking brighter than ever inside.

A huge thank you to our staff and volunteers who have spent time refreshing the space and making it even more welcoming for our community. 💛

🧡 This week, we celebrate Refugee Week 2026 and this year's theme: Courage.

At Maslow’s Community, we see courage every day, in people who have had to leave their homes, start again, learn new skills, build new connections, and create a future for themselves and their families.

We are proud that many of our volunteers, staff, board members, and community members have refugee backgrounds. Their resilience, talents, cultures, and stories help make Maslow's the welcoming and diverse community it is today.

This year also marks the 75th anniversary of the Refugee Convention, a reminder of the importance of dignity, protection, and human rights for people forced to flee their homes.

This Refugee Week, we celebrate refugees and people seeking asylum, and we continue our work to make Maslow’s a place where everyone feels welcome, supported, and valued.

💛 Courage is not only found in big journeys, but also in everyday acts of kindness, welcome, and solidarity.

This Saturday, Shaw St, Rosneath St and Langlands Rd got a bit of a glow-up! ✨

Children and adults alike had the chance to unleash their creativity and try their hand at graffiti art, creating colourful designs and transforming street bollards into mini works of art. A huge thank you to SWG3 and .art for making it happen 🎨💚

There were plenty of games and activities for children (and quite a few adults who couldn't resist joining in 😄), along with snacks, drinks, and lots of friendly conversations.

Alongside the fun, people helped with a street clean-up and gardening, helping bring a bit more care and colour to the local streets 🌱

More than anything, Street Glow-Up is about local voices. The people who live on these streets know them best, so the day was a chance to hear their ideas, concerns and hopes for the area.

See more photos from the day in our latest blog post:

A big thank you to everyone who came along, shared ideas, got involved, and helped create such a positive atmosphere.

Special thanks to our amazing partners and supporters who helped make the day possible. 💚

All of us at Maslow’s Community are saddened and concerned by the violence and hostility seen in Glasgow and other parts of the UK following the tragic incident in Belfast.

We stand against violence, hatred, racism, and prejudice in all forms. Our thoughts are with everyone affected.

Maslow’s Community believes that every person deserves safety, dignity, respect, and compassion. Refugees, people seeking asylum, and local residents are all part of our communities.

At difficult moments, we must choose unity over division, care over blame, and humanity over hatred.

We remain committed to supporting people from all backgrounds and working towards communities where everyone feels safe, valued, and welcome.💙

Behind every project, every activity, and every success at Maslow’s, there are volunteers. 💙

Yesterday, during Volunteers’ Week, we welcomed Simita Kumar, Minister for Equalities and International Development in The Scottish Government, and her team to learn more about our work and meet some of the people who make it possible.

One of them was Zuhura, who shared her experience of volunteering at Maslow’s. She spoke about building her confidence, developing new skills, making lasting friendships, and even meeting her best friend, Judy. More than anything, she described Maslow’s as family, a place where she feels supported, valued, and connected. 💙✨

Together, we spoke about the work happening across our community and the people who make it possible.

Thank you to Simita Kumar and her team for taking the time to visit, listen, and recognise the people behind the work.

And most importantly, thank you to our volunteers — Maslow’s is built by community, and you are at the heart of it.

Happy Volunteers’ Week 💙
