We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to Maslow’s Community Hub for What Govan Said 💛

Over the past few months, Govan HELP has been speaking with local people at their community drop-ins and during our four Street Glow-Up events, gathering thoughts about life in Central Govan and Linthouse and what people would like to see change.

Come along to hear what your neighbours have said, share your own thoughts, and have a look back at our four Street Glow-Ups through a mini photo exhibition celebrating the people, moments and communities that made them happen. 📸

What did September look like at Maslow’s? Quite a lot, as it turns out! 💛

More than 700 people shopped at Maslow’s using their vouchers, 287 people shopped with us as cash customers, 91 clothing packs were provided to people living in temporary accommodation, and 617 people came along to the Hub for English classes, other activities, support drop-ins and appointments.

There’s always much more happening behind the numbers - conversations, classes, cups of tea, practical help and people looking out for one another.

A huge thank you to everyone who helps make this possible each month - our volunteers, staff, people who donate clothes and household items, our supporters, and everyone who gives their time, energy and kindness to the community. We couldn’t do it without you. 💛

📸 A few moments from our fourth and final Street Glow-Up!

From the beginning, the Street Glow-Up was designed to be more than a clean-up and a chance to bring a bit of a party atmosphere to the streets. We wanted to create a space where neighbours could meet, spend time together and share their thoughts about what could make their streets better. Looking back at all four events, we feel we managed to do that, at least in some small way. 💚

This time, we also had board games for adults and children from Games 4 Life, led by Harper Church, as well as great live music from Freed Up. A huge thank you to both for helping make the day so enjoyable. 🎲🎶

And thank you to everyone who took part in the Street Glow-Ups over the past few months. We hope some of the connections and conversations started through the project will continue. 💚

Are you ready for the final Street Glow-Up? 🌟

Come along to MacGregor St, Arthurlie St and Craigton Rd on Saturday 26 September for a relaxed afternoon with your neighbours. Enjoy the activities, help with the street clean-up, and share your thoughts on what could make your neighbourhood an even better place to live.

There’ll be live music, kids’ games, free pizza and refreshments too! 🍕🎨🎶

Our next Book Club read is George Orwell’s 1984, a well-known story about freedom, control and a world where people are always being watched.

We read together, talk about the story and help with new words. It’s relaxed, friendly and a lovely way to practise English. ☕
