You may have already seen that applications are open for our Lead Coach position at the Firhill Youth Project & Community Sports Hub!

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in delivering rowing sessions for young people in our local community, helping to open up the sport to those who might not otherwise have access.

Application forms are available via both the Scottish Rowing website and our website.

Mike Simpson, former Project Coordinator and current Chair of the Board, said:

“This is a brilliant opportunity to help make rowing more accessible. We’re looking for a dedicated, driven individual who is passionate about opening up the sport to new people and making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people in the community.”

📅 Full details and application information are available here: https://www.scottish-rowing.org.uk/about-scottish-rowing/vacancies/1389-firhill-youth-project-and-community-sports-hub-scio-lead-coach

Please note that our application deadline has extended from 23 March to 27 March.

WOW what an incredible day! Our Come & Try today was a huge success!🚣‍♂️✨

Our young people had the chance to get out on the water, try rowing for the first time, and hear from World and European Medallist Laura McKenzie about her sporting journey from representing Scotland to winning medals on the world stage for Great Britain in Beach Sprint Rowing. Laura also shared how sport has played a massive role in her life.

Our second guest speaker was sadly unwell, but Mike stepped in to share his own rowing journey through the World Class Start Programme and onto the Scotland rowing team, and spoke about the positive impact that sport has had on his life.

A massive thank you to everyone who came down, to all who helped set up and run the day, and to Partick Thistle Football Club for kindly allowing us to use their space and being so helpful.

Special thanks goes to Laura for taking the time to come down and preparing some fantastic slides!

We’re looking forward to seeing some of today’s attendees again as part of our Core Group. If you’d like to get involved, please get in touch at [email protected].

We’re celebrating Volunteers’ Week 🥳 At Firhill we rely on volunteers to help run our sessions. Two of our amazing volunteers are Emma and Alexander who have been helping to run our Sunday Core Group sessions. They help set up the equipment, launch the boats and help with some coaching while out on the water.

With our Lead Coach being injured and unable to lift heavy equipment our volunteers have been more crucial than ever in helping us continue to safely run weekly sessions for our young people and we are so grateful for them and the hard work they do!

Emma and Alexander both learnt to row on the Clyde in Glasgow, but you don’t need to be a rower to get involved, anyone is welcome to get involved as a volunteer at Firhill! If you would be interested in finding out more contact us at [email protected]
