Sir John Stirling Maxwell Allotment Gardens

Allotment gardens in Pollok Country Park. Established in 1888 for the local community to enjoy the pleasures of gardening in a countryside setting.

We have 122 plots within our gardens which are located within Pollok Park, Glasgow. The Gardens were create on the behest of Sir John Stirling-Maxwell in 1889 for the residents of Pollokshaws. Since then the allotments have been run by a committee elected from the members.

Come along and say hello to Brisket who likes to visit us daily and explore the allotments.

One week to go! Sir John Stirling Maxwell annual Open Day is on Saturday, August 15th from 1pm to 4pm.

Best Plot Awards, Best Scarecrow Competition, Fun-filled Children’s Activities, Face Painting, Fresh Produce & Preserves, Allotment-grown Flowers & Plants, Pavilion Cafe with Home Baking. The Raffle with amazing prizes, including hampers and local vouchers, is a must-enter.

£1 entry for adults donated to charity, while children enjoy free entry.

The event is wheelchair accessible; enter through the Pollokshaws Road entrance of Pollok Country Park (Follow the signs).

The results are in for the SJSM Allotment Awards 2026. This year our 160 members got the chance to vote online in a survey for best plot, newcomer, longstanding member, greenhouse, shed and personal favourite.
