We did it! 🙌

Secure Cycle Storage, provided by GCC/Hooplr (formerly known as Cyclehoop) is finally coming to Anderston.

Over 5 years after the rollout in neighbouring areas, Anderston is to be finally put on the map.

6 units (each holding 6 bikes) will be installed in 4 locations in our area (provisional list below)

Please note that at this point there's no mention of the 2 units promised on the corner of Brechin St and Kent Rd - these were part of the recent consultation and were previously brought up as a success story by Cllr Millar.

Quoting GCC materials:
"There are now 326 shelters located across Glasgow, each with capacity to store 6 bicycles. As of June 2026, there is an average occupancy of 93% across all units."

Locations provided are:
5 Cranston St
223 Berkeley St.
27 Houldsworth St (2 shelters)
60 Kent Rd (2 shelters)

Booking process will likely start after the installation on a first come, first served basis. The existing units will (finally!) allow applicants to register their interest and bring more storage to the area, should the project be continued in the future.

Meeting starts at 6:30pm and ends approximately 8:30pm

If you wish to stay after to speak with Glasgow City Councillors and other members of the community, you are welcome to do so after the meeting until 9pm

The UK Government has launched a public consultation on the use of fireworks and pyrotechnics, and they want to hear from as many people as possible.

The consultation is seeking views on proposals to address concerns around noise, safety, anti-social behaviour, and the impact on people, animals and communities, while continuing to allow fireworks to be enjoyed for celebrations and cultural events.

Your experience and opinion matter. Take part in the consultation and help shape future policy.

🛑🚒 Yorkhill Fire Station 🚒🛑

Many of you will have seen the disappointing news that Yorkhill Fire Station is due to close.

MP Martin Rhodes has created a petition calling for this to be saved.

We do not agree that Yorkhill Fire Station should be closed especially when the city centre population is due to double over the next few years.

Please sign & share if you also agree that closing Yorkhill Fire Station deserves a rethink!

“Yorkhill Fire Station has been serving the local area since 1971 in its current location, and a fire station has been in this area since 1859.

It is now facing closure after almost two decades of cuts to public services by the Scottish Government. This decision will disadvantage local communities and lead to an increase in critical response times.”

Anderston Community Council is aware of the recent attacks and incidents that have caused concern among residents in our area.

In response, we have raised community safety as a priority issue with Police Scotland's local community policing team, our local councillors, and Glasgow City Council's Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability (NRS) team. We have asked our partners to work together to address residents' concerns and consider appropriate measures to improve safety in the area.

We understand the impact these incidents can have on people’s sense of security and wellbeing, and we will continue to engage with the relevant agencies on behalf of the community.

We encourage anyone who has information about criminal activity or who has safety concerns to report them through the appropriate channels.

Residents can report;
📢 non-emergency concerns, suspicious activity, or information about incidents to Police Scotland by calling 101 or by using the online reporting services available on the https://www.scotland.police.uk/contact-us/.
