"At a meeting of Glasgow City Council Christy Mearns, Green councillor for Anderston, City and Yorkhill asked about the policy.

She asked: “Following the Council’s recent response to Transport Scotland’s consultation into the future of the M8 Woodside viaduct, will the relevant City Convener commit to writing to the relevant Minister once they are appointed to urge them to pursue the ‘remove’ option, and offering the Council’s full support?”

Angus Millar said: “The council offered support for the removal option.”

He said it offered a major regeneration opportunity and a change to “heal the scar in our urban fabric” that the M8 created when it was built.

He said: “The solutions of the 1960s are not the solution for the 2030s” referring to when the motorway was built and he said it was “bulldozed through the city centre”.

Millar said removing the viaducts was an option the council had been advocating for a number of years and noted that Transport Scotland was now beginning to look at that."

Blythswood & Broomielaw Community Council area:

"A new GP surgery has been planned for Glasgow city centre as its population is to double up to 40,000 residents.

The growing number of people living in the city centre currently have limited access to local doctors with an expansion of homes in the area taking place.

The new GP practice could accept up to 30,000 registered patients and be based in a building within the Holland Park homes development on Holland Street."

"Councillor Angus Millar, city convener for city centre recovery, said: “Growing the city centre’s population is vital to supporting its recovery and regeneration – but that must go hand-in-hand with better amenities and local services for residents.

“Improving access to GPs is an essential part of our effort to create a sustainable city centre, which is a thriving neighbourhood in its own right.

“The new surgery will greatly increase primary healthcare capacity in the city centre and also significantly extend the kinds of medical support directly available to residents.

“I am delighted that the council is able to support a new GP surgery at Holland Park, a development which is itself a good example of the new homes being delivered in the city centre as part of its ongoing transformation.

This facility will be open to residents not just in the immediate Charing Cross area, but across the city centre and in neighbouring communities such as Anderston.”"

Yorkhill & Kelvingrove Community Council area:

"The closing date of a popular Glasgow gym has been announced.

The Nuffield Health Glasgow West End Fitness and Wellbeing Club in Finnieston, will permanently close its doors on August 31, 2026.

The news comes after plans were lodged to knock the gym down to create 391 homes for rent on the land.

A petition against the project amassed over 2,000 signatures as gym members warned that the closure would have a 'devastating' impact on the community.

However, the plans - which were lodged by real estate firm Redevco - were approved."

The date has been announced for the closure of Nuffield Health Glasgow West End.

"The local authority will assess potential locations so that the work can be completed during the 2026/27 financial year.

So far, it is expected that areas will include Anderston and Yorkhill, which will see approximately 49 trees, and Bridgeton and Dalmarnock, which will benefit from four."

Almost £400,000 in funding to plant 100 new trees in Glasgow has been set aside by the city council, according to fresh reports.

"Anderston Community Council and a neighbour had objected to the plans while six letters of support for the proposal were submitted.

The community council claimed the change of use could “worsen the Glasgow housing emergency” and also raised fears over it becoming “party flats”. Supporters said self-catering accommodation would be “a good idea in a busy, visitor-focused area”."

Update: Our Planning Committee has noted this appeal and will be reiterating our opposition to this by contacting elected councillors, MSPs, etc.

The owner is urging the Scottish Government to overturn the ruling.
