BIG NEWS!

We have been invited to perform in the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2026!

Evolve will take to the stage, alongside a variety of other dance groups from Glasgow, to perform on the main stage in the Hydro.

10 years ago, Indepen-dance performed at the closing ceremony, so we are very grateful to be invited back.

This has been such a difficult secret to keep and we’re really pleased to share this with everyone. We’ll keep you up to date with our progress and pictures, before the big show on the 23rd of July!

Reflecting on Destinations…

In March, the Young 1’z were invited to perform at Destinations, the youth performance platform organised by YDance, held at The Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock.

The group performed ‘Compass’, a dance which celebrates each dancer’s unique movement style, the old and new. What made this day even more special was that it was World Down Syndrome day! We made sure to share what makes us feel proud, unique and special - as well as wearing our odd socks, of course.

Since this performance, we have been offered a place to share ‘Compass’ on a wider platform - U.Dance National Festival!

We will be sharing our work, alongside other wonderful Scottish dancers, on Friday 3rd of July in Tramway.

Our dancers and team had a brilliant time and also loved the duet they saw from the dancers in the show. Truly inspirational and we have some hip hop dancers in the making!
We hope to bring them to one our festivals in the future. It was also lovely for our dancers to meet Emma and be part of this feature

Volunteers Week 2026

All of us at Indepen-dance would like to thank each and every volunteers who supports us. From the dance volunteers and the coffee hut, to everyone at venues and events throughout the year!

This past year, we have had Kirsten and Hannah support the Young 1’z, supporting the dancers throughout classes, residencies and performances. This year’s Summer Sharing will feature a dance choreographed by Kirsten!

Ross volunteers at both Dance Your Socks Off and Thursday adult class in Tramway. Following on from his Dance Leaders qualification, Ross has developed his leadership skills massively, being a great role model and supporting dancers to get the best out of their class.

Ellen volunteered with the Evolve performance company for a couple of years. With a beautiful movement style, Ellen provided dancers with support and artistic development. Her volunteering role culminated with our Celtic Connections show - a perfect opportunity to highlight the trust and confidence that the dancers had with Ellen.

Indepen-dance could not do what we do without the support of volunteers, so we thank you all!

If you’re interested in volunteering please get in touch.
