Disabled Artist Residency Exchange

A new, disabled-led residency created to support the growth, visibility and sustainability of Dance and Disability Network Artists in the UK.

Julie spent the week with Marc Brew Company and other artists from across the UK exploring and developing their artistic practices, exchanging ideas, taking part in disabled-led workshops and an open sharing!

We have a guest tutor - KIRSTY ALEXANDER

Kirsty is a freelance dancer, teacher, and mentor who been a certified teacher of Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT) for nearly 30 years.

She has taught extensively in Higher Education and advised on the development of new dance programmes both nationally and internationally. More recently she has focused on the ongoing development of professional dancers, including co-directly Independent Dancers from 2015-2018.

As a performer she has worked with a wide range of artists including Gaby Agis, Rosemary Butcher, Gill Clarke, Michael Clark, Michael Alain, Station House Opera and most recently Aya Kobayashi & Monika Smekot. As a maker she usually works in collaboration with artists from other disciplines.

After nearly 40 years in London she returned to Scotland in 2021.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that we won the Community Organisation Award at the 15th National Diversity Awards in Liverpool this weekend!

This is a remarkable recognition in our 30th anniversary year of Indepen-dance, and we couldn’t be prouder.

A huge thank you to all of our supporters, partners, trustees, volunteers, staff and, of course, our members, for dancing with us and being part of the Indepen-dance family for 30 years!
