🧶 Women’s Weaves – Our First Crochet Gathering After the Summer Break! 🧶

After our summer break, we’re delighted to welcome you back to Women’s Weaves for our first gathering of the new season! 💛

Join us for another warm and welcoming evening centred around creativity, connection, handicraft and shared moments. It’s a relaxed and supportive space to slow down, learn together and simply enjoy one another’s company.

During this session, we’ll explore a variety of crochet stitches, textures and techniques for joining crochet pieces together. It’s a lovely opportunity to experiment, build confidence and create useful samples that you can return to in future projects.

As always, the wonderful Marzena, our talented and experienced crochet maker, will gently guide us through the process.

🧶 Please remember to bring your own yarns and crochet hooks — ideally:
• crochet hooks in a few different sizes
• yarns of different thicknesses and textures
• smooth yarns without fluffy fibres, if possible, as these make it much easier to see the stitches, understand the construction and unravel your work when practising.

You don’t need to be an expert! We warmly welcome anyone with some basic crochet experience, whether you crochet regularly or haven’t picked up a hook for years.

This gathering is organised by the Community Culture & Art Association (CCAA). At the heart of our work is the belief that creating together is one of the most natural and meaningful ways to connect, nurture understanding and strengthen our community.

It is time to share the wonderful final creations!

Following our puppetry and storytelling workshop as part of the Govanhill International Carnival Festival 2026, we’re delighted to present some of the fantastic puppets created by our participants and pretty wood puppets made by Maria Herbert-Liew.

Each piece is completely unique — shaped by imagination, personal experience, creativity and individual ways of telling a story. Together, they show just how many different ideas and voices can emerge when people are given the space and freedom to create.

A huge thank you once again to our brilliant workshop leaders Maria Herbert-Liew and Peilin Shi, to Govanhill Baths Community Trust for organising the festival, Community Culture & Art Association (CCAA) for co-organising and hosting the workshop, and to our wonderful volunteers.

Most of all, congratulations and thank you to our participants and creators. These are your puppets, your ideas and your stories — and we’re very happy to share a glimpse of what you created!

What a wonderful evening at CCAA! 💙✨

As part of the Govanhill Baths Carnival Festival, we were delighted to co-host Swimming with Social Workers, organised by Govanhill Baths Community Trust and presented in our community space at Community Culture & Art Association (CCAA).

A heartfelt thank you to the performer for such a moving and thought-provoking performance, to everyone who joined us and shared the experience, and to our amazing volunteers whose support made the evening possible.

Events like these remind us of the power of art to bring people together, spark conversation and strengthen our community.

A beautiful afternoon of learning, making and caring together. 🌿💚

As part of the Govanhill Baths Carnival Festival, this inspiring Herbalism Workshop was organised by Govanhill Baths Community Trust, with Community Culture & Art Association (CCAA) proud to co-host the event in our community space.

Together, we created natural herbal remedies to support refugees experiencing skin conditions and emotional wellbeing—showing how shared knowledge and collective action can make a real difference.

Yesterday’s Women’s Weaves workshop was filled with creativity, warmth and beautiful shared moments.

Together we discovered the Japanese braiding technique Kumihimo — a mindful and relaxing art of weaving colourful cords. Thank you to everyone who joined us and created such a welcoming atmosphere.

A very special thank you to our wonderful facilitator Marzena for her amazing preparation, guidance, and all the beautiful materials she brought for the workshop. Your passion and care made this experience truly special.
