Meet the Robinsons: Blog 1 ❤

For Megan, the idea of fostering started with a moment she couldn't forget.
As a teacher, she met a young person in care who arrived at school carrying all their belongings in a backpack. The image stayed with her for years and sparked a conversation that would eventually change her family's life.

Together with her husband Simon and daughter Mia, they began exploring fostering and discovered they could offer something every child deserves: stability, support and a place to belong.

"Who we are is enough."

In this first instalment, the Robinsons share what inspired them to foster and their experience of the assessment process.

Another amazing milestone to celebrate!
Carol has been fostering for 15 years, providing care and support to a wide range of children and young people during that time. She has seen many young people successfully transition into adulthood, while others have been supported to return to the care of their birth families.

Carol takes pleasure in sharing her interests with young people, involving them in crafting, gardening on her allotment or even co-presenting on hospital radio with her. But alongside of this, Carol has enjoyed the learning she has taken from these shared experiences and sees our young people as valuable sources of knowledge in their own right.

Adam, her Supervising Social Worker, is grateful of the warm welcome he always receives during visits as well as the samples from the latest allotment harvest. Adam, and all at Action for Children wish to express our heartfelt thanks to Carol as we look forward to continue working with her in the future. ⭐

A place to call their own... but why? 🏠

Anyone thinking about fostering will have seen that a key requirement is to have a spare room. But it's much more than just a requirement.

For many children and young people, having a room of their own provides comfort, stability and a sense of belonging during a time of change. It's a safe space where they can relax, feel secure and truly be themselves.

Being able to choose where their furniture goes, display photos or put posters on the walls can help them feel at home and part of the family.

A spare room isn't just an extra room. It's a place a young person can call their own. 🏡
