People's Pantry

People's Pantry We are a membership based community food shop, a part of Govanhill Baths Community Trust, that provides good quality food at a substituted price.

For membership inquiries, please contact [email protected]. The Pantry stocks a range of essential items, from store cupboard staples, like pasta, tinned tomatoes, and coffee, to fruit and vegetables, and baked goods. We are always working hard to expand the range of items we have in stock and have recently partnered with some amazing food brands! Anyone who lives in the G41 and G42

postcode areas can become a member of The People’s Pantry for £6 a year. They can then do a weekly shop for £4, which will provide a minimum of £30 worth of food. Our memberships are currently full, however you can pop in to The Pantry to enquire about our waiting list.

This Volunteer Week, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredible Pantry volunteers. Your time, compassion, and commitment help keep our shelves stocked, our pantry running smoothly, and our community supported. Whether you’re organising donations, tidying up the space, or greeting members with a smile, your efforts make a meaningful impact every day!

This year in particular, we want to spotlight one of our amazing former volunteers. From being Team Rwanda's First Female Mechanic, to cycling freshly cooked food to the Pantry every week, and to launching her own bicycle CIC, Sandrine has shown commitment, positive energy, leadership, and glamour throughout her two years at the Pantry. Do join her classes .cycles You will be in good hands!

2025 was a year of food justice, community power, and shared skills.

🥕Food Access, Dignity, and Fighting Food Waste

In 2025, we distributed 30+ tonnes of fresh fruit, vegetables, halal food, and household essentials to 547 households.
We also rescued 24 tonnes of food from landfill, turning surplus into support for better nutrition, health, and well-being across our community.

🍽️ Community Meals

We delivered 10 Community Meals, serving 1,300 people in total.
With the support of 30 volunteers and 5 partner organisations, we prepared 450 portions across 9 cultural gatherings, and 850 portions at 1 large community meal.

🥘 Ready Meals with The Hidden Kitchen

We ran 32 meal prep sessions in partnership with the Hidden Gardens. Over 1,600 ready meals were produced in total, which served 50+ pantry members weekly.

25+ volunteers played a key role in saving 300kg of food from landfill. They enjoyed learning cooking skills while building community connections.

🍓 The People's Preserves

We rescued 240kg of surplus fruit and vegetables from landfill, and preserved them in 750+ jars of jams and pickles.
25 volunteers learned more about new recipes, seasonality, and food waste reduction.

🍄 Community Champignons

31 local men worked cooperatively and learned about mushroom cultivation and locally sourced food production.
100+ kg of oyster mushrooms were distributed through The People's Pantry, 50 mushroom grow kits were sold to share skills and sustain the project.

🌱 Carfin Street Gardening

43 raised beds were nurtured along Carfin Street by the neighbours, who shared their learnings around seed sowing, composting, soil health, and seasonal growing. The harvested herbs, potatoes, and beetroots were fed back into community meals, preserves, and the Pantry's shelves.

🧵 Workshops with Rags to Riches (R2R)

Alongside food support, we delivered creative workshops making hot water bottle covers and draught excluders.
96 attendees built skills, confidence, and social connection.

Thank you to every volunteer, neighbour, and partner who made it possible.

Looking for a meaningful Christmas gift this year? 🎁

Join us at The Deep End Christmas Market on 13th of December, where The People's Preserves will be selling a delicious range of jams, pickles and chutneys, each jar made with love, creativity, and a mission.

The project brings together volunteers, diverse cultural groups and members of The People’s Pantry to transform surplus fruit and veg into beautifully preserved products. Through hands-on workshops, participants swap traditional preservation techniques, learn new ways to reduce food waste, and help keep produce out of landfill.

This Christmas you can take home:
🍓 Strawberry Mint Jam
🔥 Spicy Tomato Chutney
🌈 Rainbow Pickle
💜 Beetroot Chutney

Perfect for festive cheese boards, stocking fillers, or a tasty treat for yourself—just £4 a jar. Come and support The People's Pantry.

The Festive Market is on all weekend, catch us on Saturday!
