Great to see our beginner session fully booked! Coach Stephen spent 10 minutes with each group before letting everyone put their new skills into practice. We wrapped up with a game of Gas Express—no pressure, plenty of laughs, and lots of fun! 😄

This was followed by our Improver Session, which still has spaces available. If you're thinking about taking the next step, don't be put off—it’s not as difficult as you might think, and it's a great way to build your confidence and develop your game.

A big thank you to the Woodend Bowling and Lawn Tennis Club Ladies team for their warm hospitality and a great match. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and the competitive spirit on display.

We’d also like to thank Wolver for sponsoring our match T-shirts. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Tennis Fun Fact: David Attenborough & Yellow Tennis Balls 🎾

Tennis balls were black or white until the 1970s. When colour TV launched, white balls vanished on screen.

As BBC Two Controller in 1967, David Attenborough pushed for colour coverage of Wimbledon and saw the problem. Tests showed fluorescent “optic yellow” was most visible to viewers.

Yellow balls started to be adopted in 1972, and Wimbledon switched in 1986.

As we celebrate Sir David’s 100th birthday, remember: his TV vision helped make tennis easier to watch for everyone.

We have so many social tennis sessions, coaching, ladder games and fun tournaments, sometimes we forget to stop and 🥳 celebrate!

We held a Christmas tournament on the 27th Dec, with 30 participants enthusiastically taking part.

Together they raised £215 for Achieve More Scotland, a charity with a tennis programme for schools in deprived areas of Glasgow.

Well done all and a huge congratulations to the winners Jacob and Dean ! 😁🤩

If you missed out, be sure to take part next time 🎾🎾

While our social tennis sessions are on pause for the winter break, our enthusiastic members are still keeping the courts busy by organising their own games. All four courts were full at lunchtime today — that’s the exact energy we need before Christmas! Merry Christmas Newlands Park CTC ❤️🎾🎄
