💚 This World Cerebral Palsy Day, we’re celebrating independence and the importance of finding the right support.
Cerebral palsy affects everyone differently. For some people, it can affect movement, coordination, posture or muscle control – but a diagnosis alone doesn’t determine someone’s ability to drive. 🚗
At DriveAbility Scotland, we focus on the person, not simply the diagnosis.
Our specialist driving assessments explore an individual’s abilities and needs, helping to identify whether driving is safe and what adaptations or support could make driving easier, more comfortable and accessible.
Depending on the individual, this could include:
🔹 Steering aids
🔹 Hand controls or alternative accelerator and braking systems
🔹 Specialist seating and positioning
🔹 Secondary control adaptations
🔹 Specialist driving tuition
Sometimes, finding the right solution can take time. As technology and vehicle adaptations continue to develop, there are more ways to explore what may be possible.
For many people, driving represents far more than getting from A to B. It can mean independence, employment, education, family life and greater freedom to participate in the community. 💚
This , we’re joining people around the world in raising awareness of cerebral palsy, challenging assumptions and recognising that every person’s abilities, goals and circumstances are different.
💚 The right assessment.
🚗 The right adaptations.
🤝 The right support.
✨ Greater independence.
If you or someone you support has cerebral palsy and would like advice about driving, vehicle adaptations or accessing a specialist driving assessment, our team at DriveAbility Scotland is here to help.
