✨ NEW TRUSTEE ANNOUNCEMENT | Emma | Volunteers’ Week ✨

We are celebrating Volunteers' Week by introducing the newest member of the Clutter Chat Board of Trustees—Emma! 🎉

Emma joins us with a fantastic background in community service, including roles on housing association boards and charity committees. She first crossed paths with us through her work as an Aftercare Officer at Warmworks, recognizing how deeply clutter can affect well-being.

For Emma, this role is all about connection and community:

❤️ "Clutter can impact anyone at any stage of life, and I want to show people they are not alone and it is nothing to be ashamed of. We all come with memories and collect items along the way. I want to empower people with the tools to make changes in their own space and time, with that lived-experience support."

As National Hoarding Awareness Week 2026 draws to a close, we want to be clear about what this campaign has been building towards.

Hoarding behaviour is a recognised mental health condition that affects an estimated 2–5% of the population. It frequently co-exists with other conditions including anxiety, depression, ADHD and OCD. It has significant implications for health, housing, safeguarding and social care. And yet there are no national guidelines in the UK to ensure that people affected receive consistent, appropriate support.
That is what we are campaigning to change.

In October 2025, the UK Parliament held its first-ever debate on hoarding. This week, we have continued that conversation - amplifying lived experience, sharing resources and tools, and making the case for a standardised national approach to hoarding support.

We are calling on practitioners, commissioners, policymakers and sector leaders to add their voices. What should national guidelines for hoarding support include? What does good practice look like in your area? What needs to change?

As National Hoarding Awareness Week ends, we believe no one should face the challenges of clutter alone. We’re focusing on what matters most: reducing stigma and bringing our community together through kindness and understanding. Let's keep the conversation going.

Your Voice, Your Experience

If you could share your thoughts on these four questions, it would be really helpful.

- What does clutter mean to you?

- How does clutter affect you?

- What kind of help or support would benefit you the most?

- What are the biggest barriers or challenges you face when trying to make a change?

Your input will go directly toward making sure future services are kind, fair, and actually work for the people who use them. It may also be featured in our reports, and across our public channels, to help others find the support they need.
