🎨 WANT A MURAL FOR YOUR COMMUNITY? WE NEED YOUR WALL!
⭐️ In 2028, Scotland will mark the centenary of the Equal Franchise Act which gave women and men equal voting rights. We want to mark this important moment with something that communities can see, engage with and make their own.
Protests and Suffragettes is looking for property owners across Scotland who have a wall, gable-end, shop frontage or other public-facing space that could become a mural celebrating Scotland’s suffragettes or other women changemakers.
We’re looking for spaces with potential — from a small mural to a landmark gable-end artwork — where we can work with the local community to research the women and stories connected to their area, develop the design together and co-create a public artwork that belongs to the community. We’re particularly interested in hearing from property owners who already want a mural or public artwork for their building, and who are willing to give permission for us to develop the project with them.
Once we have identified suitable locations and secured permissions, we will seek funding to make the murals happen.
We want to continue bringing Scotland’s history of protest into the places where people live, work and gather — and connecting the women who fought for political equality with the communities continuing the fight for equality today.
🏴 Do you own a building with a wall that could tell a story?
🏢 Are you a property owner, landlord, business, community organisation or local group with a suitable space? Do you know of a wall or space in a common good area?
📍We want locations right across Scotland!
Let’s turn Scotland’s walls into a celebration of the women who secured our right to vote – and paint their stories into the heart of our communities!
