As we head toward the upcoming elections, GMB Branch 40 is asking every political party one simple question: Which of you is actually listening to the workers and residents of this city?

A City on the World Stage
With the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow, the eyes of the world will once again be on our streets. Right now, our city centre lanes are a total embarrassment. They are neglected, dangerous, and a blight on Glasgow’s reputation. We cannot welcome the world while our back lanes are overflowing with filth and plagued by vermin.

The "Reclaim Our Lanes"
GMB Branch 40 is demanding that any party seeking our members' votes must commit to a real Reclaim Our Lanes strategy. This is no longer just about cleaning; it is about:
Public Health & Safety: Ending the era of rat-infested, hazardous alleyways.
Crime Prevention: Installing secure gating to stop illegal fly-tipping and antisocial behavior.
Dignity for Glasgow: Ensuring our city is as clean behind the main streets as it is on the front.

No More Empty Promises
The time for "talking shops" is over. We need a budget that delivers Hit Squads, Enforcement, and Gating. GMB Branch 40 will support those who support our services. If you want our vote, show us your plan to reclaim our lanes.

⚠️ URGENT NOTICE: DEPLORABLE CONDITIONS AT POLMADIE CLEANSING DEPOT

GMB Branch 40 is officially raising an urgent alarm regarding the deteriorating state of the Polmadie Cleansing Depot. It is unacceptable that in 2026, our members are expected to work out of a facility that feels trapped in the 1950s.

The Current Crisis at Polmadie
Major Rat Infestation: The site is currently overrun with vermin. While the Council’s own pest control team is attempting to manage the situation, it is clear that a "reactive" approach is failing. This is a significant health and safety risk to every worker on site.
Inadequate Welfare Facilities: The basic requirements for hygiene, rest, and changing are not fit for purpose. Workers who keep this city clean deserve clean, modern, and dignified facilities themselves.
Structural Disrepair: As one of Glasgow’s original sites built over 70 years ago, the infrastructure is crumbling. It is no longer a site fit for 21st-century cleansing operations.

GMB Branch 40 Demands
1.Immediate Investment: We demand a clear, time-scaled investment plan to modernize Polmadie Depot.
2. Deep-Clean & Eradication: A comprehensive, professional intervention to permanently clear the rat infestation.
3.Welfare Audit: An immediate review of the facilities to ensure they meet modern health and safety legislation.

Our members at Polmadie have shown nothing but dedication to Glasgow. It is time the Council showed that same dedication to its workforce. We want change, and we want it now.

GMB Glasgow Branch 40 motto is quite simple "if you invest you will get success" and we are doing this all around the city plus after Glasgow City Council budget recently there will be more deep clean/neighbourhood teams coming through with further employment very soon!!
Members of our branch keep up the good work plus thanks to the citizens of the city who deserve to see and clean vibrant place to live in we will endeavour to assist as much as we can.

GMB Glasgow Branch 40 is committed to standing up for our local communities. Today, we are launching a vital campaign: We must save The Lochs Shopping Centre in Easterhouse.

Better known to us all as"The Buywell, this center is more than just a place to shop—it is the heart of the Easterhouse community. For many residents, it is a lifeline that provides essential services, local jobs, and a social hub for the area.

Why we must fight:
Protect Local Jobs: The closure would be a devastating blow to workers and their families.
Support Our Residents: For those with limited mobility or no transport, The Buywell is an irreplaceable local resource.
Prevent Community Decline: We cannot allow another vital community asset to be stripped away.

The Buywell must stay open. GMB Branch 40 stands in solidarity with the workers and the people of Easterhouse.
