Medway African Caribbean Association was started back in 1984. Mr Joe Cole had the idea along with John Okomah and some others, to meet with the idea of forming an association as a means of getting to know each other. People from a wide range of cultural backgrounds attended a meeting, which saw the birth of β€œ Medway Multicultural association. Mr Cole was the Chairperson and John Okomah the vice c

hairperson, also on the committee were Mrs Cole and Ron Hill. Some of the other cultural groups left to form their own group, but the group continued and renamed itself: Medway African Caribbean Association.

We’re proud to be leading the campaign for Chatham to become the first UK Town of Culture. If successful, up to Β£3m will be invested in local events and community projects in 2028, creating opportunities and showcasing what makes this place special.

Have your say and tell us why Chatham deserves the title: πŸ‘‰ https://forms.gle/rK3etBE98PJsUd377

Hi everyone
Help shape the future of cultural heritage in Medway & Kent
Medway African and Caribbean Association (MACA) would like to develop a Black Cultural Archive to preserve and celebrate the stories, experiences, creativity and history in our community.
We aim to create a space that everyone in Medway and Kent can access, learn from and enjoy regardless of background.
To ensure this archive reflects the needs and interests of the whole community, we are conducting a survey.
We want to hear directly from you who live, study or work in Medway/Kent. Your input will guide our vision and help us determine how best to serve schools, researchers, community groups and the wider public.
This survey takes around 5–7 minutes to complete. Your information will remain confidential we do not collect personal information
There are two different surveys
The first one is for young people up to 25 years who live, or study in kent or medway

Medway Maritime Hospital is encouraging members of Black communities to take part in a pioneering new research programme aimed at tackling health inequalities and improving healthcare outcomes.

The programme, called Improving Black Health Outcomes (IBHO), is led by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) BioResource. It aims to improve understanding of how health conditions uniquely affect Black communities across the UK.

Taking part is simple – participants consent to provide a blood or saliva sample and complete a health and lifestyle questionnaire.

Read more on our website on how to take part in this new research programme - https://orlo.uk/H7csm

As part of the Creative Health Medway programme, 7 local artists were commissioned to deliver creative workshops designed specifically to make a positive difference to people’s health and wellbeing.

Paramjot specialises in drawing detailed photorealistic art. Since starting an organisation dedicated to supporting elders from the South Asian community, she has become interested in how creative practices can support health and wellbeing. Paramjot’s work responds to a critical need to support those living with dementia. In her project, Paramjot learnt from dementia specialists and creative health practitioners to plan and deliver creative arts workshops with older people, focusing on those living with dementia.

β€œI’ve learned to design multi-sensory experiences that ensure everyone can engage in their own way.”
