Jewish Care Scotland

Jewish Care Scotland Scotland’s leading Jewish welfare charity since 1858. We have a small team of dedicated and hardworking staff, as well over 80 caring and committed volunteers.

Jewish Care Scotland is the only charity dedicated to meeting the welfare needs of Scotland’s Jewish community. We offer a wide range of professional social work and social care services and work together with the charity’s volunteers, dedicated to tailoring our services to the needs of each individual. We are a non-profit organisation and rely on the generosity of individual donors to make up the

shortfall in our funding. Every penny donated is appreciated. We operate out of the the Walton Community Care Centre which was custom built and opened in 1999. It is the focal point for the delivery of all our services. The Centre is located in the heart of Jewish community and allows us to offer social work support, run a day centre and a number of special clubs where people can gather socially, participate in therapeutic programmes, eat a meal together, be entertained and take part in a whole range of activities including keep fit, bridge, artwork, discussions and music appreciation.

As part of Volunteers' Week, we want to highlight the very heart of the JCS Walton Community Care Centre: our incredible Volunteer Team 💜

On average, our group of 30 volunteers give up over 2,100 hours of their time each year, providing at least 42 hours of vital support every single week. We have welcomed even more volunteers this year to support our expanding daily schedule, including our new afternoon card and strategy clubs.

Whether it is delivering a paper, helping with the dishes, or simply sharing a chat over lunch, the time they give means the absolute world to the people we support 🫂

Thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers for your time, your energy, and for always bringing such wonderful life to our community. We couldn't do it without you!

As we continue to celebrate Volunteers' Week, we are delighted to highlight a vital member of our volunteer family at the JCS Walton Community Care Centre: Lesley.

Lesley is one of our long-term volunteers, and Honorary Vice-President, with a journey spanning decades, including six years of service on our board. She first got involved back when we were the Welfare Board at Coplaw Street, packing Pesach parcels. Notably, Lesley was also one of the founding members of Welcome Wednesday in 2021, helping shape the weekly café into a supportive space that impacts lives every week.

In her own words: “It felt like a true family, the very first feeling. It was very welcoming. There was a seamless ‘togetherness’ of staff, service user and volunteers.”

Thank you, Lesley, for your dedication, your decades of hard work, and for always bringing such wonderful energy to our community!
