The Culture Vulture

The Culture Vulture The Culture Vulture is a North East culture superfan, championing the brill creative spaces, places, faces and happenings across the North East & wider North.

The Culture Vulture is a North East cultural champion supporting, promoting and developing the North East cultural agenda – all the artists, events, venues, creatives, public art works, festivals and businesses. I love it and I live it; inspired by a love of going out, seeing, doing, experiencing, visiting, adventuring, listening, creating, making, empowering others, working in the cultural sector

and business. I shout loud and proud about what goes on in the region whilst creating and seeking new commercial opportunities within the cultural sector whilst working with fellow culture vultures to develop activity that is vibrant, sustainable, viable, income generating and profitable. The Culture Vulture also:
• Works with organisations on audience development, marketing, events management and project management.
• Organises sessions/ meets where the intention is to create a thriving cultural community, sharing, learning from each other, engaging, supporting each other’s agendas and to stop practice and organisational introspection – seek out new ideas, new projects, emerging artists and businesses, keeping the network fresh – the perfect blend of evolution meeting revolution.
• Organises sessions with a purpose – discussions, workshops, events for artists, creatives, cultural organisations and SMEs on specific topics.
• Works one on one with artists, creatives, SMEs and new cultural organisations focusing on commerciality, strategy, audience development, business planning, resource management, pricing structures and bespoke solutions to challenges and growth…..

The lovely lot at Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair are back in Newcastle this week; if you didn’t make it along last year, you missed a really good thing…..unmissable. So great it’s back across 18 – 21 June and I’m buzzing to be supporting them once again (photo #1 & 5 me last year!)

Tickets on sale now and I’ve got an exclusive Culture Vulture 241 ticket offer 👀 Link in comments!

Great North Contemporary Art & Craft Fair is full of over 100 makers selling LUSH craft and art that stops you in your tracks a bit. And no AI art in sight!

Ceramics you suddenly need in your kitchen. Jewellery you mentally justify buying immediately. Prints, textiles, furniture, glass, sculpture, all made by super talented independent artists and makers from across the North.

And the best part (for me – apart from the shopping obvs!) is getting to chat to the people behind it all. Hearing how things are made, where ideas come from, how much care goes into every piece.

There’s also live demos, exhibitions, drop-in taster workshops, master classes and a pop up café for when you need a sit down halfway through convincing yourself that the things you’re buying is actually an “investment” (which, to be fair, it is).

📅 18 - 21 June

Headed to The Staiths Cafe today for brunch and managed to pick up the Tyne Derwent Way & Ouseburn Blossom Trail guide…. 🌸

The trail guide is gorgeously illustrated by Paulina Malowaniec and is practically a work of art in its own right. Beautiful illustrations!

This trail takes you all the way from the Metrocentre to Ouseburn Farm Charity Ltd and celebrates the flowers you will spot on your way in late Spring and Summer.

The whole walk takes 2hrs (obvs shorter if you cycle and is the perfect way to enjoy the sights and sounds along the river.

🏳️‍🌈 No flag? No problem.

Sunderland's LGBTQIA+ community isn't defined by what flies above a building. It's defined by the people who show up, speak out and support one another.

Big love to Pink-collar Gallery for turning frustration into action this Pride Month.

Join them at Port Independent, decorate a Pride flag and help create a city-wide display of solidarity, visibility and love. ❤️

They'll provide Pride flags, stationery, and craft materials for you to decorate with your own messages of encouragement and allyship.

No problem! They can provide a take-away Craftivism Kit so you can get involved from home, your workplace, or your community space.

📣 They'd also love to hear from Sunderland businesses, organisations, and community spaces that would like to host their own Craftivism Station during Pride Month. Get in touch with Pink Collar Gallery directly to express an interest!❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
