Come and see us in Ryton this Saturday!

PGN will be at Barmoor Hub, Ryton on Saturday 11th April.

Pop along to meet the team, find out more about what we do, and have a chat about groundwater and flooding in your area.

We’ll also have colouring activities for children, so it’s a great one for families too.

We’d love to see you there - come and say hello!

It’s National Groundwater Awareness Week!

Did you know groundwater national awareness week falls in the second week of March? It’s all about recognising how important groundwater is and why we need to understand it better.

Here at Project Groundwater Northumbria, we’re working with residents, councils, and partners to:

• Understand how groundwater behaves in real communities
• Learn from monitoring and local stories
• Reduce the impacts of groundwater flooding
• Develop tools to make it easier to get help and information

Groundwater might be hidden, but your experiences help bring it to life.

Thanks for being part of the conversation.

January STEM Highlights!

During January, the Project Groundwater Northumbria team visited the Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils at KESER and Brighton Avenue Primary Schools to deliver STEM sessions. We had an incredible time!

The children were full of enthusiasm and eager to get involved. Their knowledge of the water cycle and geography was outstanding, far beyond what we usually expect at primary level.

We truly believe we’ve met some of the next generation’s groundwater guardians, climate activists and future engineers.

Thank you to both schools for welcoming us so warmly. We can’t wait to come back!

🌧️ It’s Flood Action Week! 🌧️

At Project Groundwater Northumbria, we’re celebrating the power of small actions to protect our environment and reduce flood risk.

💡 Pupils at Cullercoats Primary School have created a brilliant animation showing why it's important to keep drains clear.

We love seeing young minds getting involved and helping spread the message. Their creativity and understanding are inspiring!

🎬 Check out the animation and let us know:

👉 What small changes could you make to help protect your local environment?

🌞 Summer Highlights with Project Groundwater Northumbria! 🌈💧

What a summer it’s been! Project Groundwater Northumbria has been making a splash with Drippy and getting out and about in the community. From festivals in High Spen to open days at the Baltic Flour Mill, we’ve loved every moment connecting with you.

🎉 High Spen Festival
Drippy made a splash with the Flood Quiz, and our Groundwater Guardians colouring sheets brought smiles to all ages.

🏡 Pride in Baltic Square
Pride welcomed PGN with open arms for a day filled with fun, learning, and local engagement. We talked floods, resilience, and how groundwater affects us all.

🏛️ Baltic Flour Mill Open Days
Our two-day event was a brilliant chance to meet curious minds and share how Project Groundwater is helping communities understand and prepare for flooding. We explored mining legacy, our current work, and future aspirations.

💬 Thank You!
To everyone who stopped by, coloured a sheet, played the quiz, or just had a chat—your enthusiasm keeps us going!
