When the community of Ryton embarked on the campaign to buy and save in 2018 there was some government legislation in place that provided a limited amount of protection. Now, eight years on it's good to see that legislation beefed up even more. Let's hope it stems the tide of pub closures and gives more communities the confidence to save their 'local'.

🚨 A BIG CAMPAIGN WIN TODAY!

👏 Today new planning protections for pubs in England were introduced by the Government, helping protect valued and viable pubs from being converted into houses or shops by greedy developers.

🍺 Previously local communities’ voices were often ignored. Thousands of CAMRA members lobbied their MPs, demanding better planning protection for pubs – your voices were heard!

🙏 Thank you to everyone who supported our campaign – we are pleased the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government ministers Angela Rayner and Matthew Pennycook listened.

❗ What’s next? We're already pushing the Government to take action at the next Budget. We want them to stand up and deliver support for UK pub-goers, pubs and breweries!

Phase 1 of the pub access has been completed. Believe it or not, the contractors need a dry day for Phase 2!
This will see the bonded surface added which will be similar to to what's in the beer garden.
Another refurbishment job almost ticked off our list!

Between them, Brian Cox and Alan Cu***ng have been awarded BAFTAs, Tonys, Emmys and numerous other glittering prizes.
On 27th August, they now have the honour of having their film 'Glenrothan' screened at our award-winning Ye Olde Cross Community Pub.

We’re sure they'll be mentioning it at their celebrity dinner parties for years to come.

It may have been a scorching day yesterday, especially for our little corner of the North East, but we were all beautifully cool at the Memory Cafe yesterday, thanks to the air conditioning in our Function Room!
Lots of friends gathered for a chat, a lovely refreshing cuppa (with cake, of course!), a chance to have a manicure and hand massage, and a wonderful music and movement session led by Olivia from Equal Arts.
Thank you to all our volunteers for helping all morning, and to our tena ts, Mick and Hannah for the use of the Function Room every month!
Our Memory Cafe is open on the second Thursday of every month, from 10.30 - 12.30

Ryton Cross Community Cinema presents: 'Glenrothan'

Two Scottish national treasures. One Highland whisky distillery. Forty years of family baggage. And, presumably, enough whisky to make discussing it all slightly easier.

Brian Cox and Alan Cu***ng star as estranged brothers brought back together in the Scottish Highlands, in Cox’s directorial debut.

A warm and funny story about family, old wounds and second chances, with two of Scotland’s finest actors finally getting the opportunity to spend a couple of hours arguing with each other. What more could you ask for?

When: Thursday 27th August, 7pm
Where: Upstairs function room.

**PUB REFURBISHMENT NEWS! **

We're just sharing the Ye Olde Cross post about the latest improvements happening at the minute. Read it below!
Since taking community ownership in 2019, we've been embarking on a long term plan to carry out upgrades as and when funding allows. Just this Saturday gone, for example, the monthly 200 Club was a huge success and generated £1,000!
The plans include improving the accessibility for our customers; past projects include the downstairs accessible toilet and the lift to the first floor function room.
Now we have commissioned contractors to reconfigure the trip hazards and 'funny bit' at the main entrance.
Please bear with us in the short term while this work is ongoing... and keep enjoying the pub!
