☕🍦Plot twist…

We thought the star of today’s Chai with AI event at Peace of Mind would be our famous adrak (ginger) and ilaichi (cardamom) chai🙌

Then Ben & Jerry’s arrived with a donation of 300 cups of ice cream🤩

We’re not saying the chai was upstaged, but the competition was fierce🤪

Behind the laughter, sweet treats and pampering activities was something far more important: people coming together, making connections, sharing stories and showing the courage, kindness and welcome that sit at the heart of Refugee Week.

At a time when division can often make the headlines, today was a reminder that communities are built through simple acts of generosity, friendship and human connection🫶🏽

A huge thank you to Ben & Jerry’s for their incredibly generous donation, and to everyone who helped make today such a special celebration of community🧡

☕Tea, Tales and Togetherness: Why Our Drop-In Feels Like Home🌍

Our drop-in this week was our first session back after the Eid break, and what a wonderful reminder it was of why community matters🙌☺️

We had members of our local English community coming in for emergency food support, alongside neighbours from African, Arab, Kurdish, Albanian, Ukrainian, Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan backgrounds. Some came for practical help, some needed support with digital skills, form filling and advocacy, and others joined us to practise English conversation🧡

Different languages, different traditions and all sorts of life stories, but the room was full of the same things: kindness, respect and a willingness to support one another☕️🤝❤️

A special thank you to the many friends and supporters😍

And all those friends who continue to donate food, clothing, household items and other essentials throughout the year. Your generosity helps us respond when people need support most, and we couldn’t do what we do without you🛍️💛

And let’s be honest, we probably got through enough tea to keep Gateshead going for a week☕🤪 But behind every cup was a conversation, a connection and a reminder that kindness remains one of the most powerful languages in the world.

Lots of organisations get by with volunteer help - but here at Peace of Mind? We’re literally built by them🛠️❤️

This Volunteers' Week, we want to celebrate the incredible people who give their time, skills, compassion and lived experience to support others in our community.

Behind every warm welcome, every shared meal, every conversation, every activity, every act of kindness and every moment of support at Peace of Mind, there is a volunteer who has chosen to make a difference🫶🏽 A volunteer who decided, “I’ve got time to spare - let’s make someone’s day better!”

What makes our crew extra special? So many of them know exactly what it’s like: arriving somewhere new, feeling a bit lost, jumping over hurdles, and slowly putting down roots. Now they’ve turned those experiences into superpowers - helping others feel right at home, seen, and valued.

To every volunteer, whether you joined us once, stayed for a season, or have been part of our journey for years, thank you🙏🏾

Your kindness matters🧡
Your contribution matters❤️
You matter💙

Happy Volunteers’ Week from all of us at Peace of Mind✨

💙✨

🧡A Small Request That Could Make a Big Difference

We are currently supporting a family with 3 young children who are facing significant financial hardship and are urgently in need of a microwave.

If you have a working microwave in good condition that you no longer use, and would be willing to donate it, please send us a DM.

As always, thank you to our amazing community for your kindness, generosity and continued support of families when they need it most🧡

Another busy and brilliant week at our drop-in❤️✨

From English classes and digital inclusion support📱💻 to practical advice, wellbeing support, forms, signposting and plenty of cups of tea ☕… the room was full of conversation, laughter, teamwork and community spirit.

Some people came to improve their English, some needed practical support, some came for help with technology… and some came because they simply wanted a friendly face and a safe space🤝🌍

Our drop-ins are never quiet, never boring and definitely never short of biscuits🍪😂

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers, supporters and everyone who continues to stand side by side with refugees and people seeking asylum.

We would also like to say a special thank you to our friends for their kind donations this week😍

What a fantastic start to our Women Only Table Tennis Sessions this week🎉🏓

While everyone was talking about the election, our focus was on connection, laughter, confidence and community🧡

It was wonderful to see women from different backgrounds coming together in a safe, welcoming space to get active, meet new people and enjoy themselves.

These sessions are about much more than table tennis. They support wellbeing, friendship and confidence, while helping women feel included and connected.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us. We are already looking forward to next week!
