🥔 Happy National Potato Day from Bensham Grove! 🥔Did you know that before Bensham Grove Community Centre became the bustling heart of Gateshead, this very land was a thriving farm? 🚜✨Long before our local terraced streets were built, this area was a quiet, rural escape. In honour of National Potato Day, we are looking back at our roots—when the Watson family first arrived in the early 1800s, the original building was actually a simple Georgian farmhouse surrounded by active agricultural fields! 🌾Instead of our modern pottery studios and adult education classrooms, this land once produced local food, complete with lush fruit orchards and sprawling fields. While we might not be harvesting rows of spuds today, we still keep that heritage alive through our vibrant community garden and green spaces! 🌱The next time you drop by for a class, take a moment to imagine the historic farmland that started it all—and maybe celebrate tonight with some locally grown potatoes!👇 How are you celebrating National Potato Day?
