🫶Cottam Brush Ltd Sharing the Community Spirit!

On our first day of our ONE Garden Glow Up challenge we were visited by Ben Cottam, director of Cottam Brush Ltd, who was donating brushes and supplies in order to bring our Community Garden to life! Kate Osborne MP and Peter Darrant generously lent a hand helping Ben with bringing our new supplies to the ONE Centre.

🖌️Cottam Brush Ltd has a history of being supporters of North East organisations, from the Victorian shipyards of Sunderland to the depths of the North Sea since 1858. We’re proud to be part of that legacy which has been going for nearly 2 centuries!

The ONE Centre Drop-In is a warm, welcoming and relaxed space for LGBTQ+ people and allies to connect, take a break and spend time with others in the community.

Our drop-in also provides a co-working space, where professionals, community members and allies are welcome to bring their laptops and work from the centre either for free in the Stonewall room or by booking a hot desk for £10 a day.

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (subject to change), volunteers are often onsite and may run informal arts and crafts activities. Everyone is welcome to get involved, or simply enjoy the space at their own pace.

Please note that the co-working space can become busy, so you may wish to bring headphones if you need a quieter working environment.

🕙 Opening hours:
Monday–Thursday: 10am–6pm
Friday: 10am–4pm

While you're here, you're welcome to grab a coffee, have a chat, join an activity, play pool or table tennis, try a board game, watch TV, play on the Nintendo Switch or simply enjoy some quiet time with a book.

There’s no pressure to take part in anything. The ONE Centre is simply a safe, friendly and inclusive place where you can be yourself and feel part of a community.

🪴Day 1: ONE Garden Glow Up!

Today is the launch of our 1 week challenge to get this space turned into a fabulous community garden for you all to enjoy!

We were joined by local artist IDa4 who will be adding their personal touch to the space with help from Kate Osborne MP and the winners of the Jarrow March poetry competition!

🎤The Road To Gilead hits Newcastle!

We're excited to be partnering with The Guilty Feminist Podcast and Amnesty UK Feminists to bring the Road to Gilead Open Space to Newcastle.

The open space will allow people and organisations to come together, ask questions and consider ways to tackle the rise in the far-right mindset. This is an amazing opportunity and we can't wait to see what happens on the day! Grab your tickets and we'll see you there!

👮 Hate Crime Reporting Drop-In: Have you experienced hate crime of any kind? This is your opportunity to get yourself heard by dropping in for free, confidential support. On the third Monday of every month from 10:00 to 13:00 at the ONE Centre, teams from Northumbria Police and Connected Voice Advocacy will be on hand to listen, offer guidance, and help you report incidents if you wish. No appointment is needed—just pop in for a friendly, supportive conversation.

💬 Support for charities, CICs and community groups: Get free, no-booking-required advice and guidance on starting or running a VCSE group, charity, CIC, or social enterprise. Support covers everything from legal structures, policies, and governance to funding and networking. If you can't make the drop-in, simply get in touch to arrange a separate time to chat.

🧶 Happy Hookers: a friendly, LGBTQI+ inclusive crochet group welcoming all skill levels for a relaxed evening of crafting and conversation. Beginners get free materials and guidance, and no booking is needed—just drop in for a warm welcome and a cup of tea.

📚 Relax and Read: Our relaxed and welcoming weekly book club is a space for readers of all kinds to share their thoughts, opinions and suggestions.

🌈 LGBTQIA+ Mental Health Group: A new fortnightly mental health group for members of the q***r community to come together and support each other.

💻 Monday to Friday: Our casual Drop-in Session and Free Co-working Space is open every single weekday as usual.
