For this year's National Hate Crime Awareness Week, we partnered with Orbis Community, Northeast Creative Network and Vane to bring a special workshop to the ONE Centre.

👂Acts of Listening, a creative workshop that allows people to share a personal story and bring it to life in their own way. Each book made is tailored to their own lived experience and allows us to better understand each other.

📚These books will be on display at the ONE Centre for a limited time so definitely worth a visit. They’ll then join the Acts of Listening Library, an archive of lived experiences and moments that are worth remembering.

This was a truly valuable workshop with participants saying they felt a positive impact from revealing part of their identity, helping them process emotions and giving space to address difficult situations. ❤️ World AIDS Day: Remember, Learn and Stand Together

This World AIDS Day, OUT North East is joining forces with Blue Sky Trust for a special programme at the ONE Centre in Gateshead, bringing our communities together to remember those we have lost, challenge HIV stigma, and increase understanding of HIV today.

📅 Taking place on Tuesday 1 December, the day will combine learning, reflection and lived experience. From 1pm–4pm, there will be a FREE HIV and AIDS Awareness training session for the public and for professionals, giving participants an opportunity to build their knowledge, explore the history and realities of HIV and AIDS, and understand why tackling stigma remains so important.

In the evening, from 7pm–9pm, the ONE Centre will host a special World AIDS Day exhibition and community event, creating space to reflect on the impact of HIV and AIDS and hear from people with lived experience, including a short candlelit vigil. The event will also connect with our wider work to preserve and share the history of HIV and AIDS with an exhibition of rare HIV and AIDS posters from the 1980s and 1990s.

🧶Handmade red ribbons, created by the ONE Centre’s Knit, Stitch and B***h group, will also be available, with donations supporting the ONE Centre and Blue Sky Trust.

World AIDS Day is an opportunity not only to remember, but to look forward: to celebrate how far HIV treatment and prevention have come, confront the stigma that still exists, and reaffirm our commitment to a future where everyone living with HIV is treated with dignity, respect and compassion.

For the LGBTQ+ community, accessing services and support from organisations can be difficult to find. OUT North East is trying to tackle this problem, by creating the ONE Directory!

By registering your organisation, you can let people know where and when you meet and how they can access your services. This will help in connecting the many safe spaces together and bring awareness to the amazing work that the North East has to offer.
