April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, and we’re asking for your help to raise awareness about the importance of bowel cancer screening.

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK, but when it’s detected early, over 90% of people survive. Screening helps detect cancer early, often before symptoms appear.

People aged 50 to 74 are automatically sent an NHS bowel cancer screening kit every two years. The test can be completed quickly and easily at home.

We would greatly appreciate your support in sharing this message with your contacts and, networks and communities during April.

Anyone with questions about bowel screening or who needs a replacement kit can call the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme helpline on 0800 707 6060.

Thank you for helping us spread the message and encourage more people to take part in screening.

Although the posters we have shared with you are branded for Gateshead and South Tyneside, they can still be shared in Durham as the phone number is a central number which can be used by Durham residents as well to make appointments in this area.

Last Saturday, we had the joy of celebrating the 21st birthday of our youngest director at Poised2Excel CIC, Justin Gilbert 🎉 (in the blue suit).

Celebrating Strength, Wellness & Womanhood 🌸

This morning, some of the Poised2Excel CIC community came together for a refreshing hike in celebration of International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day. Surrounded by nature, we climbed together step by step, encouraging one another along the way.

By the time we reached the top and lifted our hands toward the sky, it was more than just a beautiful view. It was a celebration of strength, resilience, sisterhood, and the incredible women and mothers we are, and our amazing daughters who continue the legacy of strength, resilience, and love.

Today’s hike wasn’t only about reaching the summit. It was about reaching our wellness goal together and celebrating wellness, sisterhood, and the power of supporting one another on every journey.

We didn’t just complete a hike, we reached our wellness goal together 🙌🏽🫶🏽

Poised2Excel CIC is excited to share a lovely family event taking place locally! Toddler Sense is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day Party on Saturday 14th March, packed with music, movement and plenty of fun for little ones.

We at Poised2Excel are heartbroken to hear about the tragic death of a 16‑year‑old boy in Chippenham, Wiltshire, who was fatally stabbed on Saturday, 31 January and later died from his injuries. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and everyone affected by this devastating loss. This is a profound tragedy that has deeply shaken the community. 

We are deeply sorry for this senseless loss of life. At Poised2Excel, we are committed to working towards safer, stronger communities where every young person can thrive without fear of violence. We believe the safety and wellbeing of young people must be a priority, and we welcome thoughts, ideas and partnerships that can help prevent such incidents in the future.

WILTSHIRE, England - A 16-year-old Zimbabwean boy has died after being stabbed over the weekend in Chippenham, Wiltshire, the police there have confirmed.

The teenager now identified as Shayne Hambakachere was found injured on London Road shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday and later died in hospital.

Dr. Gladys West, the brilliant mathematician whose groundbreaking work helped make modern GPS technology possible, has died at 95.

Born on a Virginia farm during the Jim Crow era, West defied the odds through academic excellence, becoming valedictorian of her high school class and earning degrees in mathematics that led her to a historic career at the Naval Surface Warfare Center.

As one of the first Black women hired there, her meticulous calculations and programming transformed satellite data into accurate models of the Earth — work that became the foundation of GPS technology used globally today.

Her legacy lives on every time we navigate a road, board a plane, or use a smartphone. A quiet pioneer whose impact changed the world.
