Cal chats to Kat Bruce from The Protected Areas Foundation about loads of fascinating stuff, including the eDNA sampling we did with her! Mentions of Maisy's exceptional skippering, Hunter chatting about why he loves Lumpsuckers, stuff about the work Noel does, stuff about kelp and herring and SO much more....

Excited to have re-connected recently with Maern's Primary around the drain campaign and flush sticker projects!

Re-watching the film they and the Children and Young People's Commissioner Scotland made last year inspired Peter, Cailean, Katy, Willow and Dory to get out and spray some more Ullapool drains...

We use biodegradable chalk paint to do this, so it does wash off eventually, but not before the important message gets sent:

Beach cleaning and remote beach clean station emptying efforts yesterday at Dun Canna and Isle Martin.

Note to self: do not trust the weather forecast...conditions for hauling and loading were much worse than anticipated!

But it was great to get the chance to show Kat from the The Protected Areas Foundation how the system works in this location and the station does have capacity to take a bit more more rubbish for now. Back soon.

About the Ullapool Sea Savers

Meet Ullapool Sea Savers: a group of passionate, articulate and dedicated young people from Ullapool who have come together to raise awareness of the challenges facing their local marine environment. Ullapool sits in the heart of Wester Ross Marine Protected Area – it is a community immersed in the life of the sea on every level and these children are determined to do everything they can to see that environment valued and protected now and for the future.

Thanks to their community, families, schools, friends and the amazing work of local groups like Living Seas NW Highland, these kids have learnt a lot about their local marine environment and some of the amazing things they have living here and going on – but also some of the harm being done to the seas and marine life, locally and internationally. Rather than just getting sad and angry about is, they have come together to seek out ways to actively work to save the seas.
