Greyhound Rescue Wales

Greyhound Rescue Wales Greyhound Rescue Wales is the rescue and rehoming charity for greyhounds and lurchers in Wales.

Established in 1993, Greyhound Rescue Wales (GRW) is an all-Wales charity dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of ex racing greyhounds and lurchers. Our vision is a Wales without greyhound racing, where every greyhound and lurcher has a home and receives the best possible care. Our mission is to improve the lives of greyhounds and lurchers by:
- Rescuing, rehabilitating and rehomin

g greyhounds and lurchers
- Supporting the movement to end greyhound racing in Wales
- Raising awareness of the issues facing greyhounds and lurchers
- Promoting greyhounds and lurchers as pets

Our flagship centre 'Hillcrest Rehoming Centre' in Ammanford is the base for our rescue and rehoming activities but we also have satellite centres and exciting collaborations with other reputable dog-focussed organisations across the UK. We also have six charity shops across Wales who raise important funds for our work and are trailblazers for the retail sector in their own right. We have a small staff team and a large volunteer base to support our important contribution to animal welfare in Wales. We also co-ordinate and administrate a networking space for adopters of greyhounds, lurchers and other sighthounds called Greyhound Rescue Wales Supporters. GRW is a charitable company limited by guarantee, company number 08411721, and was established in this new form on 2nd June 2013.

🐾💚 Happy National Greyhound Day! 💚🐾

For over 30 years, Greyhound Rescue Wales has been dedicated to giving rescued racing greyhounds the second chance they deserve. Since our founding in 1993, we have worked tirelessly across Wales to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome greyhounds and lurchers, helping thousands of dogs make the transition from kennel life to cherished family pets.

National Greyhound Day is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible greyhounds who have found their forever homes, remember those still waiting, and thank the adopters, volunteers, supporters and foster carers who make our work possible.

If you've ever thought about adopting a dog, consider a greyhound. You may just find your perfect best friend.

Pam in the poster is looking for a forever home along with her friends, and you can find their details below 👇

From everyone at Greyhound Rescue Wales, thank you for supporting our mission since 1993 and helping us build a brighter future for greyhounds and lurchers across Wales.

Introducing new arrivals 💚Sir David💚 Starling💚Panda 💚and 💚 Bumble 💚 at our Hillcrest Rehoming Centre🥰

All four hounds are settling in well with us at Hillcrest and enjoying engaging in numerous activities with our staff and volunteers.

Sir David, is of course named after Sir David Attenborough, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday! Our Sir David is a lovely boy, he is confident lad who loves to play in our paddocks, he has also had an off-site adventure and coped well with his.

Starling is a beautiful white and black girl, who has won us all over at Hillcrest already! (And she may have some news soon... Watch this space!)

Panda is a perfect black and white girl with a very beautiful face, she is a sweet girl with a bubbly personality, she to has ventured on an off-site activity and coped well.

Bumble is a beautiful blue girl who is also very sweet, she absolutely loves playing in the paddock with staff and volunteers, she is very engaging with you and often throws the toy at you to get you to play to!

Introducing our memorial hound - Pam💚

For many years Greyhound Rescue Wales has honoured beloved supporters who have passed by naming a Hillcrest hound in their memory.

Pam has been enjoying getting to know us all here at the centre, she thoroughly enjoys spending time with staff and volunteers, including running around in our paddock, or diving into some enrichment. Pam has also ventured off-site, learning all about the world around her, way to go Pam 💚

This is Watson 💚

Out in the grass, ears doing their own thing, legs everywhere, looking like he’s running straight into the week ahead…

Watson might not be the kind of dog who throws himself at everyone straight away, he takes a little time, a little patience, and a little understanding. But once you’re his person? That’s it. You’ve got a loyal, gentle, quietly affectionate boy who will choose you every single time.

He’s the kind of dog who bonds deeply. The kind who watches you, learns you, and then leans in for those soft, earned moments that mean so much more because you worked for them together.

And out in our secure field, when he runs like this, free, happy, full of life, you can see exactly who he is underneath it all: a lovely boy who just needs someone to give him that chance.

So here he is… running forward, hoping this might be the week his person finds him 🤞💚
