Everyone at TD1 Youth Hub is delighted that our Chief Executive, Douglas Ormston, has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Kings Birthday Honours for services to youth work.

Commenting on the award, Peter Croan, Chair of TD1 Youth Hub, said:

"We are all filled with immense pride for Douglas. Since leading TD1 Youth Hub from its inception over 13 years ago, he has grown the organisation from a small team supporting around 30 young people to a thriving charity that now reaches more than 350 young people each year.

His vision, dedication and unwavering commitment have helped transform countless lives and created opportunities for young people across the Scottish Borders. Whether supporting vulnerable families during the pandemic, championing youth mental health and wellbeing, tackling issues affecting young people, or ensuring that no young person is left behind, Douglas has consistently gone above and beyond in service to others.

Douglas is a very humble man whose approach to life and work is best summed up by the phrase ‘Service Above Self’. This award is fitting recognition of his tireless efforts, inspirational leadership and passion for helping young people achieve their full potential."

The Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and young people of TD1 Youth Hub extend their warmest congratulations to Douglas on this well-deserved honour.

Congratulations Douglas – a truly deserving recipient of the British Empire Medal.🎖️

Delighted to share the news that thanks to the The National Lottery Community Fund Scotland Young Start Fund we have been awarded 3 years funding to continue our TD1 Engage Project.

Engage is our project working with Primary Schools and providing enhanced transition support moving to high school along with other pieces of groupwork and opportunities.

Douglas Ormston our CEO said “we are thrilled to receive another 3 years funding from Young Start to continue this vital project. We have seen the issues young people face as they enter their teenage years and we are pleased we can continue to play a small role in supporting those steps into teenage life”

Kate Still, Lottery Scotland Chair said “I’m happy to announce the latest round of Young Start funding that will benefit around 70 organisations across Scotland to continue to deliver activities for young people that will help them to develop and thrive in their communities. By supporting children and young people through a range of creative and practical projects our Young Start grant holders can help them to shape their present and their future for the better.”

Was a great morning for a walk as we hosted our annual Walk for Sean in memory of former PC Sean Wright.

Sean was a big lover of the outdoors and was passionate about getting young people into the outdoors.

That’s something we’ve committed to with our friends at Hike & Bike Hub, Galashiels SCIO SC 051989 to undertake regular walks in his honour.

38 of us today including Sean’s friends and family went for a short three mile walk around the town followed by some refreshments afterwards.

We were delighted to attend the Annual Community Champions Awards on Friday 8th May, where TD1 Youth Hub was formally presented as Community Members of the Rotary Club of Galashiels and District.

Chief Executive Douglas Ormston attended on behalf of TD1 to receive the membership from Rotary President Fabiano Furlan.

We are incredibly honoured that both TD1 Youth Hub and our partners Galashiels Academy were bestowed this recognition. Since TD1 was established, we have enjoyed a strong and valued partnership with the Rotary Club, with shared commitment to supporting young people and the wider community across Galashiels.

It was also inspiring to hear about the outstanding work being carried out by individuals, groups, and organisations throughout the area. The evening was a powerful reminder of the compassion, commitment, and community spirit that exists across Galashiels and beyond.

A huge thank you to the Rotary Club for the warm welcome and continued support.
