📢 Our full programme for Tweed River Festival 2026 is now LIVE! 🤩

🧶 Welcome to the second edition of the Tweed River Festival, an annual creative celebration of the River Tweed! From 30-31 October 2026, join us in Melrose in the Scottish Borders for two days of river-focused creative activities: from collective net-making to riverside listening; costume-making to screen-printing; circus performances to photography workshops; films, food, wild swimming, a parade, and more!

🎨 We are delighted that Connecting Threads’ 2026 artists in residence, Rebecca Beinart and Savinder Bual, will be sharing their work and research from their residencies at the festival.

💧 Other creative practitioners guiding us through an array of river-centred activities will include: Zoe Atherfold, Emily Beaney, Ingrid Campbell, Dyffryn Dyfodol, Lara Greene, Kate Liston, Louise McLachlan, Eve Mosher, Sita Pieraccini, Rowan Environmental Arts, Keira Tucker (ASCUS), Jamie Wardrop, and Webb-Ellis.

🪢 FRIDAY PROGRAMME: ENTANGLEMENT 🌱

We gather for a SPRINGBOARD local assembly in special partnership with Culture for Climate Scotland. The theme of the day is entanglement. Guided through collective net-making, photography, creative microscopy, and discussion, we begin the festival by practising collaboration.

🎊 SATURDAY PROGRAMME: A SEASONAL CELEBRATION ✨

On day two, we listen to, taste, and feel the river. We ask: what if paying attention to ourselves, our communities and our rivers – under, over, round and through – is a gift that we can offer?

➡️ Full programme announcement is now live on our website!

Last Thursday CABN met at Old Gala House in Galashiels for a workshop with photographer Kat Gollock. Kat talked participants through photography basics, and the group explored the beautiful Old Gala House taking photographs of objects at multiple different angles. Kat then spent some one to one time addressing individual photography questions. Thank you to Kat and everyone who came along!

If you have an idea or suggestion for a workshop that would help you in your practice, please don’t hesitate to get in touch at [email protected]

Artist residencies.

A few residencies that may be of interest to the network have come to our notice. Read on for more details:

*Community Land Scotland Residencies.
Deadline: 1 pm on 9 October 2026.
Community Land Scotland seeks four artists for paid residencies with community-owned places across Scotland, exploring land, power and place. Four practitioners will each be paired with a community-owned place and co-create a response shaped by that community's own priorities: Go Girvan! in South Ayrshire; Kinlochleven Community Trust in Lochaber; Uig Community Trust on the Isle of Skye; and Muckle Roe Community Enterprise in Shetland.

*After the Single Use, Artist Residencies.
Deadline: 11 pm on 22 October 2026.
Eight locations. Eight research teams. One global conversation about plastic, healthcare, and what comes next. As part of After the Single Use (ATSU), eight artists will be selected (one per research location) to join the local research team for a residency period between March-May 2027. This is a research-embedded residency, not a production residency: the focus is on curiosity, exchange, and process. Led by the University of Edinuburgh.

*Eastgate Theatre Artist in Residence
Deadline: 8 am on Monday 26 October 2026.
For their 2026/7 residency, Easgate invite proposals responding to the theme Belonging. The artist might explore place, identity, heritage, family, language, culture, community or the natural environment. There is a fee of £5000 payable to the selected artist. Community engagement is an essential part of the residency.
