Thanks to all those that attending our Craft Destashing event the Club will be sending over £400 towards the End Polio Now campaign. For over 40 years Rotary International has been working towards the eradication of polio worldwide. Although cases still remain in India and Pakistan plus small numbers in our countries we remain confident that one day this condition will be no more.

Thank you to all the crafters, members of the public, volunteers, family and friends plus Rotarians who made the event happen, especially Tricia Paterson who coordinated the event.

Special thanks to the Focus Centre for their support.

Putting down roots for Galashiels’ future!

After seven years of planning, a new living Christmas tree (the first in the Scottish Borders) has been planted in the gardens, creating a permanent feature for the town to enjoy throughout the year and a growing focal point for future celebrations, including Christmas.

The Nordmann Fir is expected to grow around 12 inches each year once established. The tree chosen was the largest size recommended for planting, giving it the best chance of taking root and thriving for years to come.

As well as being a more environmentally sustainable choice, a living tree makes financial sense. Once established and ready to take on the main Christmas display, it will offer a far more cost-effective approach than buying, transporting and disposing of a cut tree every year.

The BID for Galashiels project has involved years of planning and consultation with organisations including Scottish Borders Council and Gala in Bloom, creating a lasting investment in the town.

While the new tree establishes itself, an existing tree will continue to provide the main festive display, giving us something to celebrate now and something to watch grow through every season.
