We asked pupils at Galashiels Academy to give us a behind-the-scenes look at the new school, and the talented S3 Media class has delivered.

A huge thank you to the pupils for bringing this project together 🖤

NEW Retail Resilience Pilot - Limited Spaces

We know many businesses are finding trading tough right now. From speaking directly with businesses, feedback from our Learning at Work Week, business survey, and understanding the wider social and economic landscape, it’s clear that many businesses are looking for immediate, practical support.

In response, we’re launching a new Retail Resilience Pilot Programme offering tailored support from an external retail expert. The programme will include:

✓ Business audit and review
✓ 1 to 1 coaching and guidance
✓ Identifying pain points and opportunities
✓ Practical solutions and next steps
✓ Exploring how the BID can support your business further
✓ Action Learning Sessions with fellow business owners

This pilot will help shape future support, initiatives, and solutions that will benefit the wider business community and the town as a whole.

Spaces are limited. If you’d like to take part, please get in touch as soon as possible to express your interest by emailing [email protected]

What did BID get up to in May? Here's a quick round-up... 👇

🩵 Delivered our first-ever Learning at Work Week programme, bringing a range of business development events and opportunities to the town.
🩵 Attended the first Tour de France Working Group meeting to explore how Galashiels can make the most of this huge opportunity coming to town in 2027.
🩵 Met with John Lamont MP to discuss the challenges facing businesses in Galashiels, ensuring your views are represented at UK Government level.
🩵 Organised and delivered a Textile Takeover across the Galashiels Heartland of the Borders social media channels, reaching hundreds of thousands of people locally and beyond.
🩵 Co-delivered a special pop-up Theheartlandmarket alongside Tangled Galashiels, helping create a circular route that encouraged festival visitors to explore and support the wider town centre.
🩵 Secured Galashiels' participation in the national Scotland Loves Local campaign, helping put our town firmly on the map.
🩵 And behind the scenes? Lots of planning and preparation for the exciting projects and events coming over the next few months.

Thank you to all the businesses, partners and organisations we work with to make these initiatives happen. Together, we're working to make Galashiels an even better place to live, work, visit and invest.

We hear you when you talk about the challenges businesses are facing in the current climate, especially small and micro businesses dealing with rising costs, economic uncertainty and changing consumer habits.

While BID continues to focus on delivering practical support and investment on the ground for our levy payers, we also recognise that many of these challenges are influenced by wider economic and government-level factors.

That’s why Mags and Lewis arranged to meet with John Lamont to voice the comments and experiences being shared with us by our BID levy payers and local business community.

A productive meeting and an important opportunity to ensure the realities facing businesses in Galashiels are being heard at a wider level.
